Armendariz Wins Rimington Award

Colorado School of Mines' Matt Armendariz has been named the Rimington Award winner as the best center in NCAA Division II.

Armendariz, a team co-captain, led the Orediggers to a 12-2 record and NCAA semifinal appearance in 2021 as he becomes the first player in program history to win the award.

The honor caps a superlative season for the senior as he was also named D2CCA First-Team All-America, Associated Press Second-Team All-America, and Elite 100. Armendariz was also a First-Team All-RMAC and First-Team All-NFFCC selection as he moved to center for the first time in 2021 after starting at guard in 2019. He helped Mines average 176.7 yards rushing per game and 409.3 total offensive yards per game while producing 38.6 points per game. He also blocked for Harlon Hill Trophy finalist and All-American Michael Zeman, who accounted for more than 1,900 total yards, as well as quarterback John Matocha, who ran for 492 yards yards and seven touchdowns while passing for 38 scores on a 68 percent completion rate
