IUP has a 6-game lead in the West over Gannon (second place) with two games still to go. That has to be a West record if it holds up.

Well, Gannon has only one more opportunity to get a win. Or the way they are playing, help IUP extend its lead to 7.

Since crossover games only counted recently, the seven games is definitely a record. It's almost impossible to win by 7 games with the old 14 or 16 conference games.

              IUP 74
              Clarion 58

              Final

Win No. 25 tonight tied the school record for most wins in regular season (1994 and 2010). A win at Cal Saturday would set a new school record.

Fancy record. Lofty ranking. Big winning streak.

But, is this team for real? Is it a legitimate regional or national title contender?

Last night was a painful game to watch. For, say, 33 of the 40 minutes, IUP looked anything but a 25-2 team. The usual suspects came back -- circus passes, playing out of control, failed alley-oops, running out of bounds under the basket several times. Twenty turnovers on the night. Luckily, a real bad Clarion happened to be in town. These things could be lived with in early November. When they are still happening in late February, over and over ... a little alarming.

The PSAC West has masked many of these nights for IUP this year. They got by Mercyhurst while committing an ugly 25 turnovers. Clarion last night.

The lights are about to get a whole lot brighter -- and the competition a whole lot stiffer.

Malik Miller has really looked frazzled the past several games. Yes, he's a true freshman. But, they're going to need him down the stretch. He's in the rotation.

On the vast majority of nights since the Fairmont game (the 15 game winning streak), IUP has been its own biggest opponent (and enemy). The team hasn't been challenged much the past two months as evidenced by the slew of blowout victories. Hopefully, with Cal clinging to life, the Vulcans have a big (loud) crowd down there on Saturday. With the trip to West Virginia likely looming, this team could use the experience of playing in a hostile environment.

Maybe a game like last night was just a go-through-the-motions type of night. The scary thing heading in to March is that's it's been this same stuff all year. Lining up against Kutztown and Shippensburg or West Liberty and Fairmont State ... they aren't going to win by simply just having more talent. Twenty-some turnovers against those guys will get your uniforms turned in quickly.

If -- BIG IF -- they can finally clean up the sloppy stuff ... it could be a special March.

Well-stated. IUP is the only "very good" team in what has been a dud of a PSAC West. Gannon has the second best record and has come back down to earth after the early January stretch in which they pulled off escape after escape . IUP hasn't needed to play very well to win any games since crossover play ended. It'll be interesting how they stack up once the PSAC Final Four and NCAA play begins.

Life changes have kept me from following this team as closely as I normally would, but the return of the webcasts has at least let me watch the last several games. I would concur with much of what was said. This is not the 2nd best team in the country, I can say that confidently. They have feasted on an awful PSAC West, but even still, taking everybody's best shot and being on the verge of running the table in the division is something they deserve a lot of credit for. Finding ways to win even when they aren't at their best says a lot about them.

If IUP gets past SRU or Mercy next week, I really hope chalk holds out east and they have to get past Ship and, if they win that one, Kutztown to win the PSAC. They need tested like that heading into the regional.

We've been down this path before with Tom's teams ... entering the Cal game red hot. And ... then getting smacked by the lady Vulcans.

It will be an interesting game ... IUP can win a share of the West title with a win. Tom has the talent to stay in the game. Will he have the game plan to do so?

Tom is 1-7 versus Cal. He could sure use win No. 2 today. They can't show up afraid again like the first time.

Side note: Maura D'Ana dressed last game but didn't play a second. Any reason?

Cal men win today and play in Johnstown on Monday night. Lose and get ready for the banquet.

Makes sense ... not have it for game of the year.

                            Unreal

I guess I'll get to watch the WJ vs WL game at 4pm. Great job, PSAC.

Out coached and out hustled in the second half. How can you be up 14 at half and play so uninspired in the second half?
