This is a Zebra game. If they call it tight, IUP has a decent chance to win. If it's loose (and a hack fest like the first game) IUP will be in trouble.

* The announced (stress that word) gate was 417. I get its Spring Break. But ... 417? Holy smokes.

* IUP was very fortunate their opponent was God Awful. Joe wouldn't have beat many teams last night.

According to the guy sitting next to my wife and me, it wasn’t spring break yet, he said the students head out next week. My wife asked where the band and dance team were. I think it was the worst crowd we’ve seen all year—pathetically low. Almost no students, and barely any support from the town for a basketball team in the conference tournament. My next question is: Did the town even know there was a game? If not, that’s on IUP the athletic department, marketing, whoever’s responsible because last night they were lucky to have 150 people in the seats.

This was on par with the Round 1 home football playoff game (that actually had about 300 humans attend).

No other way to put it, the athletic department should be embarrassed by the lack of fans, no band, no dance team, etc. IT WAS A PLAYOFF GAME!!! At best there was 150 fans.

This was on par with the Round 1 home football playoff game (that actually had about 300 humans attend).

Hard to draw on a Monday when WWE is on the road to Wrestlemania. Every episode of Raw until then is must see, lol.

I think by and large people have given up on the idea that this team going anywhere, but still a crazy bad turnout for a playoff game. It speaks to all the issues you guys have discussed about the program’s decline. IUP men’s basketball is not in a good place right now.

With about 2:30 remaining, IUP was shooting FTs.

After the second one, an Edinboro player put IUP's Bautista Rodriguez in a reverse neck-lock and then threw him backward to the ground.

If it would have mattered, the player would have been ejected. Instead, they gave him a flagrant and it fouled him out. Rather than sit on the bench, he then just walked into the locker room.

It summed up Edinboro's night and season.

IUP's Luke Triggs was about to retaliate but his teammates and Joe quickly (smartly) restrained him. Unlike that dirty player, they at least have another game and cannot get a guy suspended.

Put it this way, if that type of chicken-sh!t cheap shot had happened in January, it would have been an all-out brawl.

To add... previous in the game the same player was involved in a double foul with Grove. Grove didn't do anything but it was a way for the refs to grab control of the game. The same Boro player also got a tech after the double foul for taunting the IUP bench after he made a 3 pointer. This kid did all this in approx 9 min of PT.

The same thing happens with high schools when they make the playoffs - attendance actually goes down when everyone has to pay and pay a certain way (cashless). There is a segment of the population (probably more common in IUP's neighborhood) who refuse to go cashless, which doesn't help either. Students are the least reliable spectators anymore. A lot of older attendance was out of boredom and a lack of alternative entertainment. Its almost impossible to be bored anymore as a college student with the entire internet in your pocket and high speed internet everywhere you go.

Normally I might agree but that arena was packed playoffs and regular season for Joe's whole tenure. Now the the last 3 years there is a significant drop off with yesterday being beyond embarrassing rock bottom. There is far more to this story. Maybe IUP/Indiana can get a reporter to report the news.

Dallis Dillard played just 21 minutes due to foul trouble (and still scored 22 points).

IUP shot a dismal 6-21 from outside and got beat up on the glass. WCU got 55 of their 88 points from two players in that game (Rodriguez and McCall). They played a ton of guys in that game and subbed like crazy, but the scoring was pretty dominated by just those two. IUP was up 3 points at the half but couldn't hold it.

The game had 53 fouls called in 40 minutes -- and it seemed like they could have called another 25.

I remember Dallis got his third early in the first half and Joe sat him forever (almost half the game as it turned out). Obviously IUP is much, much worse (on both ends) when Dallis isn't on the floor.

I suspect this will be a pretty tight one tomorrow. IUP is due for a good performance. Joe's teams have also historically performed pretty well after they've been written off.

And, when you draw a smaller crowd for a home playoff game than a Saturday morning Youth Soccer game, you've officially been written off.

Like I said earlier, if this is a firm officiating crew, I like IUP's chances. If this crew lets the game go playground, IUP will lose. This team isn't built for a physical brawl.

Ship's two games with them were instructive. The first at West Chester was tied 28-28 at half, and then Ship got obliterated the second half and ended up losing by more than 20. The game at Ship was totally different. For the second year in a row, West Chester came in with a gaudy record and then looked horrible the first half, which ended with Ship leading 46-27. It was so bad that you had to wonder how West Chester was leading the East. Then, unlike two years ago, West Chester did fight its way back into the game the second half, mostly by pressing and hacking, until Ship pulled away late. There were 46 fouls called in that game, and as you said above it felt like they could have called a lot more. It was one of the few times this year when Ship actually got the benefit of some foul calls at home.
