    Re: Iup basketball

All in all it was a good start. Syracuse post players are NBA size. Giants with obvious D1 elite skill sets. They won't see anything like that again past this Saturday.

IUP had one real cold stretch shooting and the press caused some fits. At times they broke it very well.

Dante really looked like a D1 point guard ... very poised and under control. He played very well against all their blue chips. Cobo had a nice game. Danielak was in double digits. Glover had around 15 points.

Miller had 11 as a true freshman making his debut in the Carrier. Pretty impressive. I know there was redshirt talk. I don't think that's going to be the case.

Cottrell had 7-footers at every turn. He battled.

Hutton was a bit of a mystery. He played a lot but you didn't hear his name a whole lot.

I tell you what, though, Syracuse was playing seriously. They pressed probably 75 percent of game and didn't empty the bench to the walk-ons. They played 10 guys in rotation all night. It even got a little chippy. I don't think they liked getting punched in the first 12-13 minutes.

Very positive start. Spain plays they probably keep it slightly closer. They could have used his speed.

Syracuse is going to be awfully good this year.

IUP started Dante, Hutton, Cottrell, Glover and Cobo.

Danielak and Miller rotated in and out most of game. Spain didn't dress. Huff played last 3-4 minutes.

    38-33 Syracuse at half.

Spain not dressed. Malik Miller playing a lot.

Syracuse went to the press and resulted in 18-2 run. Little different than a D2 press.

I think staying within 30 points in both of these games and getting through them with no injuries would be considered a success. The only one I can remember that got really ugly for the men was up at Michigan State. Other than that they've kept them respectable with Pitt, Maryland, Sienna, etc.

Syracuse is playing Gannon East later in the week (Leymone). But, yes, it would be neat to see Joe attack the vaunted Syracuse zone.

Clarion playing at Kentucky could get a little ugly. Perhaps he won't run it up too bad on his alma mater. I'd like to watch the Rock vs Tennessee game. End of the day, nobody realistically expects much in these games. It's a good experience for the players.

Now, Tom on the other hand ... I'm still trying to figure out why in the world they would agree to play at UCONN (again). There are exhibition beatings and there are exhibition slaughters. Hopefully they are at least getting a nice check.
For all his faults, one thing Jamie Dixon could do was carve up the Syracuse zone. Maybe Joe can apply some of what he learned at Pitt. Of course Jamie was attacking it with more comparable athletes. I'm just happy it's basketball season.

Joe's Hilton opens tomorrow mere feet from the KCAC.

It will be interesting were the pregame crowd hangs ... for years The Grapevine has done very well before the games.

Is there a video stream available through Syracuse to watch? I haven't checked yet. Be neat to watch.
