They'll get a way larger candidate pool immediately after the season.

D2 coaches seem to have way higher morals than D1. The timing was just awful.

What a joke! Unless Tom has health issues that he didn't disclose, he should be ashamed of himself for leaving this program in this condition.

      • Speaking of coaching jobs, looks like Joe Mazzulla is going from D2 coach to interim head coach of the Celtics in just a few years time. Quite a career progression, even if the circumstances are a bit nuts.

Sometimes I wonder what these really successful small college coaches think when stuff like this happens. In 3.5 years goes from Fairmont State to Head Coach of the Boston freaking Celtics. Still remember the really good forward for Mercyhurst ripping their heart out with that game winning 3 in overtime in the NCAA’s that year.

FSU blowing that game in the final minute and then losing in OT ... had quite the ripple effect as we at IUP remember all too well.

            • Sad to see coach Fudala go but he's moving up the chain to a head coach spot. Good luck to him.

Big loss for IUP. Wonder who Joe will choose to take his place.

                    • Joe's opener (vs Concord at Clarion) is the same day as the potential PSAC State Game at Miller Stadium.

The football game is scheduled for 3 p.m. Joe plays at 5:30 p.m.

If this was per the norm, the football game would have led right in to the night basketball game.

Lot of logistics involved now from a fans' perspective lol.

Hopefully there is a Clarion Broadcast.

There will be. And, hopefully this is the last time Joe goes on the road for opening weekend. They haven't done this in forever.

If football plays in the PSAC Championship that day (highly likely) ... there won't be anybody at that first basketball game aside from some parents. I'll try and go up Sunday.

Tort would have to somehow lose 2 of the next 3 weeks to not make the State Game.

Concord will be a nice test to start the season. They have several players back and added some nice transfers. They've given IUP a couple good games over the years. Joe's only blown them out once or twice.

"There is a lot of talent returning from last year's national semifinalists' squad. That includes Shawndale Jones, who was leading D2 in scoring when he was lost for the season to injury early on -- and this team still went that far. The Crimson Hawks should score a lot and run the PSAC."
