Spoke to someone who was there last night with the SRU team. Said everything was painted/updated but that's about it other than some major HVAC upgrades.

It’ll be interesting to see how GU plays in a tiny gym. Only seating on one side and Daemen only averages 200 fans per game so not much home crowd advantage. Heck, I bet Gannon has some fans there with the weather supposed to be decent for a trip up to Buffalo. Either way it should be a good measuring stick against a really good Daemen team ranked #2 in the country!

I've been to a game there. It is certainly a unique gym.

It's very similar in size to the old gym at Notre Dame (OH).

          • Wider seats (so less plush seats), put in new Bleacher tops and painted, new court, new lighting system, new PA system and HVAC.

not sure hiw that equates anywhere near 10mil

Construction and renovation projects add up REAL fast.

Don't forget all the demo work - removing the old seats, court, etc. The labor adds up real quick. If it was a Union project the labor dollars get out of control in a hurry.

Conversely, all the new work then needs installed.

Hidden in the bushes is all the fees paid to the architecture firm that did the design and created the plans. They'd have an engineering firm signing off on everything (with their hands out, too). Gannon likely had to pay Prep for using their facilities.

That $10m is a lot of money to people but in those types of projects it really isn't a lot to work with. The labor, obviously needed, is the killer. A big percentage of the project money goes to it.

It is my understanding that a lot of the funds went into updates for plumbing/electrical systems and items that do not show in a casual walkthrough. Also, the new locker rooms for Basketball/volleyball and new coaches' offices were a big part of the total cost.

HVAC work is big money. Good friend works in operations for a commercial HVAC contractor and tells me the size of the orders and projects they do and its never been less than $5M.

The coaches offices being renovated is interesting as they just renovated them maybe 8 years ago or so. (It was maybe Reillys third or second to last season).

Maybe then they renovated just the existing offices and this time added more.

                    • This game vs Daemen just confirmed what we know.. Gannon may run through the PSAC and has possibly could win region. But they are not a national threat. All 3 losses to ranked teams.

Gannon getting handled easily in OOC by all the good teams they played, and then being undefeated in the PSAC does not speak well for the state of the league. They really weren’t very competitive today. Granted, Daemen is a very good team.

Fingers crossed that IUP gets back to where they belong next year.
