        Re: Atlantic Regional

Seven losses may not be good enough this year. Other years it has been higher. The PSAC East is going to be a logjam of 4-6 loss teams.

Fairmont State wins one game this week and they'll be in good shape.

Virginia Union already has 9 losses so unless they win the CIAA they're done. Obviously all but the three conference champions pick up another loss in the conference tournaments.

IUP may be afforded 1 more loss in the regular season. That's it.

As always, they'll be those upsets down the stretch. Strength of schedule is going to be huge on selection day. There's going to be a lot of teams with similar records and likely split head to head matchups.

Shippensburg is peaking. Eased past West Chester last weekend. Eight-point home win over Kutztown today was more like a 16-point game; reserves gave up a slew of points in the final minute.

Ship is the best team in the PSAC and Sleva is the best player.

People tend to weigh early losses and records too heavily. Kutztown played a very easy schedule. It's starting to show now. I've said all along the PSAC is going through Sleva.

Kutztown can drill from the perimeter, I'll give them that. But there's something missing there.

It helps Sleva a lot that sophomore John Castello, the former D-I tight end prospect from Mars, is coming into his own. He's ripping down a lot of boards and can score inside and out.

West Liberty-Fairmont State is on ROOT now (started at 5 p.m.), and Fairmont's off to a hot start. These teams play at a more frenetic pace than anyone in the PSAC.

With another week in the books, ....

                    The Contenders:

                    MEC

                    West Liberty (18-1)

                    Wheeling Jesuit (15-4)

                    Fairmont State (15-5)

                    PSAC

                    West Chester (15-4) -- Lost 3 straight

                    Shippensburg (15-3) -- Won 7 straight

                    Kutztown (14-4)

                    East Stroudsburg (14-4)

                    IUP (16-5)

                    Gannon (14-6)

                    Slippery Rock (17-4)

                    CIAA

                    Virginia State (17-2)

The PSAC landscape is going to change a lot this week. Several of the teams above play each other this week -- highlighted by IUP/Rock, IUP/Gannon and ESU/Ship.

Wildcard teams capable of a big conference tournament run: PSAC (Edinboro and Mercyhurst), MEC (Shepherd) and CIAA (Bowie State and Virginia Union)

                      Re: Atlantic Regional

IMO Shaw U men's (13-7) team has one of the most athletic and talented teams in the CIAA. They have lost some games they shouldn't and their FT shooting is horrible lately. The transfer from Arizona State is the real deal and can dominate. I hope VSU can somehow grind one out @ Shaw on Wednesday. VSU is really banged up right now and hopefully we can get healthy before the CIAA tournament.

                          Re: Atlantic Regional

You should probably drop out the 5+ loss teams. Probably there only route is via winning their conference tourney. That would leave:

                          Contenders:

                          MEC
                          West Liberty (18-1)
                          Wheeling Jesuit (15-4)

                          PSAC
                          Ship (16-3)
                          West Chester (16-4)
                          Kutz (15-4)

                          CIAA
                          Va State (17-3)

                          Pretenders:

                          MEC
                          Fairmont (15-5)

                          PSAC
                          Rock (17-5)
                          IUP (17-5)
                          E Stroud (14-5)

                          Almost dead:

                          MEC
                          WV State (12-7)

                          PSAC
                          Gannon (14-7)

                          CIAA
                          Shaw (14-7)
                          John C. Smith (13-7)

Too early for that ... the PSAC East schools all have to play each other again. By default they will accumulate losses.

So basically you're saying only 6 teams are going? Strength of schedule doesn't matter? etc. etc.
