It will be neat to see how quickly he can turn it around

Kenny Lee is interesting. He washed out pretty quickly with Sancomb at WJ. He was signed at Cal by McBride this past spring. Interesting twist.

Pegram is a big signing. He's a Day 1 starter.

It's my belief if he gets 1-2 more quality guys they can play for third in the West this winter. The West, overall, may be historically bad this season. The vast majority is in a major rebuild phase.

Joe's loaded up. SRU has Till and two other starters back. But, after that, it's wide open.

Gannon lost a ton and then also has to deal with the (year early) retirement of Evan Phoenix. The known recruiting class isn't overly impressive -- at least for the upcoming season. Mercyhurst is in a similar boat.

UPJ has two good guards back but lost Vescovi and Clancy -- two very good players that made everyone around them better. UPJ, Mercyhurst and Gannon are all three very well-coached and will remain tough outs, but I believe all three will take steps back from last year and use this season as a retooling of sorts.

Edinboro lost two mega-stars. They have some back and Cleary always finds solid guards. Jury is still out here until we learn more.

Seton Hill has a few guys back. Losing Salsamendi to Gannon was a big loss. Unless he was a grad transfer (doubtful being he played as a true freshman), he'll be sitting this season.

Clarion has major issues and is likely looking at another poor year.

You can make a case with the six players Cal had coming back plus Pegram ... they can be OK this year.

IUP is the front runner in the West for sure. Working the new talent in cohesively while also giving more minutes than he should to DL will be interesting to watch and to see how much of an effect that will have on the team's success and chemistry.

Micah Till plus whoever else appears on SRU's roster when it is finally posted will make SRU a VERY difficult out.

Seton Hill has no recruiting class to speak of and first year HC with no connection to the PSAC or D2 recruiting will make for a long year in Greensburg. Would not be surprised if more guys left there before start of Fall semester.

Rukavina has a knack for always being competitive with kids who seem like borderline D2 kids. But UPJ will be middle of the pack as always, right on the verge of being in or out of the conf post-season tournament.

Don't sleep on Gannon. We still haven't seen his full new roster and Reilly defends and rebounds better than any other teams in the conf no matter the personnel. Losing Phoenix will hurt but if the young man has had enough of college basketball then both he and Gannon are better off moving on.

Sancomb makes Cal U Pa better on day one but Sancomb's philosophy is to bring in high school kids and develop and that will take a few years.

            Clarion - Ugh.

Bingo give the man a prize. Here's what worries me with this deep IUP roster ... Cobo and Dante never leave the floor. How's he going to keep 8 other players happy over three positions? Dante has been discussed forever on here. I really think he's best in stints ... 20 mpg. Every piece of the puzzle is there this year. Depth everywhere. Dante gets way too out of control when he plays in the 35-38 mpg range. Joe also gives him a leash a mile long compared to yanking others at their first mistake. This team has a lot higher goals than winning the West this year. The rotations will tell the tale.

Doubt he is going to pull the leash on his son. I mean, he installed him as the starting PG by the third game of his true freshman year!! EVERYTHING his son does is going to be OK by Joe.

Not saying this is going to happen, but what will the teams reaction be if they perceive that there is a clearly better PG on the roster and Joe continues to start his son and allow him to eat massive amounts of minutes?

                  Re: Vulcans mbb sancomb era...

The PG of the future is here ... sat out last year with a busted shoulder he injured in fall camp. I think Dante sits more this year but not much ... maybe a 28/12 or 30/10 split.

The post rotation is also going to be very interesting. He's got (5) ready to roll juniors and seniors down there and a sophomore to mix in to the rotation (although I see Jaylen Vaughns taking a redshirt). They'll keep Cobo and Willem together as they have a year playing alongside each other under their belts. I'd guess the Duquesne transfer plays with the JUCO sensation Shawn Ulrich. Not sure how Keyes, the defensive specialist, goes rotation-wise. He could be the spot sub.

Good problems to have down low.

Sorry, I was just responding to the post, not paying attention to the thread. I think the IUP discussion has been moved to its proper home.

No worry I really enjoy the passion of my IUP brethren. It just stunned me how fast the discussion flipped from the original to another. Just wish I had as many rabid VULCANS fans. Maybe if the MBB turns back the clock some of the RIP VAN VULCANS will wake up.
