They swept UVa-Wise, which is the first tiebreaker. They're almost certainly in. Their lack of depth still hurts them but they have some guys who can play.

They pretty much play all freshman and are starting to put it together winning 4 out of their last 5. It would be silly to think they aren't going to be pretty good the next couple years if the young core and coach stays put.

WJ is a quality school with an instant "in" to every Catholic HS. Provided the school gives the BB program the necessary support, no reason they won't be back to "normal" relatively quickly.

Of course "normal" for them is playing a tough second fiddle to WLU!!!!

Welp...With the season over for Cal and effectively over for WJU. So who did "better" as a coach this year...Sancomb at Cal or Peckenpaugh at WJU?

Cal finished 8-19 overall and second from the bottom of the PSAC. The strong point of their season was mid-Dec to mid-Jan were they went 5-3. Down the stretch they went 2-8.

WJU currently stands at 9-20 which is a tick better and finished forth from the bottom of the MEC. Strong point of their season was Feb were they went 6-2. Down the stretch they are 7-3.

Clearly Peckenpaugh "won" the season battle between these two coaches. Now the subjective part, which of the two identified the better pieces this year that will move them ahead of the other in the coming season(s)?

Absolutely satisfied with year 1 of the SANCOMB ERA. Hired late, playing short-handed most of the year he was able to solidify the program, get his young players a lot of experience and get his own recruiting started with several solid players. I'll say in the 20-21 season (PEGRAM will be a senior, MACADAMS and COLLINS juniors) could be the return to highly competitive MBB. Hopefully as consistent as VULCANS WBB. We'll see.
