    4. West Liberty (20-4)
    5. Charleston (19-5)
    6. Virginia State (19-7)
    7. West Virginia State (16-6)
    8. Pitt Johnstown (16-6)
    9. Johnson C. Smith (17-6)
    10. California (15-8)
NCAA 's just released Atlantic Regional Rankings has it:

    1. IUP
    2. Ship
    3. WLU
    4. Fairmont
    5. Charleston
    6. Va State
    7. WV State
    8. UPJ
    9. Bowie
    10. JC Smith

One of the things I always find interesting is the amount of "correction" in polls that goes on after the RR's are first released. If history is any guide, the NABC, SIADA and other polls will start to look very similar to the RR's in were they rank the teams within the region. For example, I would imagine that Ship will make a return to both of these polls next week (baring any losses) and the polsters will somehow discover a way to rank them above WLU! The only consistent poll will be Massey that will continue to use it's mathmatic formula and rank the teams regardless of were other polls say they "should" be ranked.
The main thing is getting to the final eight in the region and getting into the NCAAs. Then you just play whomever they match against you.

Yea...But then they "validated" the committees selection of them as the 9th strongest team in the Atlantic Region by losing last night. If Bowie was propped up by their SOS, one would think that losing to a very good VCU team should make the team even STRONGER from an SOS standpoint so possible still in the top 10...EVEN at 16-12.

Three of the Top 10 lost last night. Wild race.

Even with a good schedule, wins and losses matter at some point.

With Ship being ranked ahead of WLU (one more loss, but a stronger schedule) and with Bowie outranking JC Smith, Mercy, Cal, ESU, etc., it's clear that the committee this year is privileging strength of schedule. Maybe that game against Daemen wasn't such a bad idea after all. ; )
To be honest, I'm surprised Fite even scheduled Dickinson, a very average D-III program. Not a game that was going to help their rating.

Same reason Lombardi played D3 games this year and last ... it's a home date. Play it or practice against yourself. Teams don't exactly line up to play games at IUP, Ship, WL, etc. Non-conference opponents can be hard to find.

              • If Mercyhurst doesn't stumble on Saturday, I guarantee they'll be in next week's top 10.

                  3. Notre Dame

                  9. Charleston
                  10. Shepherd

Bowie State and Charleston both lost last night on the women's side. Charleston lost to No 3. Notre Dame. Bowie State lost to No. 4 Virginia Union. We'll see if this changes anything for those on the bubble.

                  • Two big regional games this weekend.

Today: Virginia Union at Virginia State

                    - VU won the first meeting. Huge rivalry game.

Tomorrow: West Liberty at Fairmont State

                    - Not much needs said. Two elite programs battling for the higher seed. WL won the first meeting by single digits but had control the whole way.

But Koenig is too good a tactician not to come up with something to shift that balance of control tomorrow. I expect it to be a dogfight, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Falcons find a way to eek one out. Should be entertaining to watch either way!

I guess since Virginia State loss to Virginia Union. Virginia State will be outside the top 8 and will need to win the CIAA?

It's a cluster. The CIAA regular season is over.

Look for Mercyhurst to move up. East Stroudsburg and Cal are moving upward.

They may win more than that ...
