Mercyhurst played well defensively last night but Cal just couldn't make a shot. They were getting good looks -- surprisingly good looks. It may have been the old MAC shooters' curse more than anything the Lakers were doing. The Vulcans went just 5-23 (21.7%) from deep and shot 37.9% overall. Cal won the boards, and TOs and fouls were pretty even.

Pegram went for 25 points and 9 boards -- but also had a devastating 9 TOs. As usual, Mercyhurst pulled out a pretty ugly win.

#5's TOs and half their average number of 3s cost the VULCANS another winnable game. Never been to the MAC but venues can definitely throw off a player's game. Of nine CAL U losses this season, six could be classified as winnable. I'm really glad this season is being played with an almost entirely underclass roster. DS and staff need to add 1-2 impact players to move up significantly next year. The returnees will know how close they are to top of the heap.

Anyone who can hold Ship under 50 points this season would deserve the win. Our low this year was 54 in the second game of the season against Virginia State, and that was Ship's worst shooting night in nine seasons.

That has shaped in to a massive game for both teams. Don't forget the Rams are still alive for a spot, too. Sounds hard to believe, but, ...
