  • WEEK 3 WBB....

    Final... KUTZ. 65. JEFF. 61
    . CAL U 68. CENT ST. 57
The VULCANS played the worst game of the year. 5-21 3s, 16 TO, only 6 ST. This game was won at the foul line 11-16 against. 1-1. But a W is a W so back the CONVO CENTER for LHU and MANSFIELD on the weekend.

My guess is that she simply feels her current lineup doesn't have the players to go that route so she'll do her best with what she has. Gonna be a roller coaster.

Wow! SRU 108, Salem 105. Had to look up the box score. SRU scored 108 points despite making only 4 of 11 three-pointers! How did they do it? By shooting 44/52 from the free throw line. Salem lost despite making 18 threes in 46 attempts.

The game featured a total of 76 free throws and a total of 60 fouls (Salem was whistled for 37). The game must have taken forever.

Apparently a layup drill for SRU drawing those 37 fouls while SALEM was bombing from outside taking 46 of 88 shots from beyond the line. Even with those number of fouls only two SALEM players fouled out.

Gannon shot 74% in the first half but committed 12 turnovers.

Haley Tewes was in foul trouble but the three reserve bigs combined for 8/9 shooting. They get open and make the layups. Gannon is very efficient offensively but needs to take care of the ball.

Well the VULCANS won't be seeing GU for a couple of months but the 19 TO per game does look promising. JESS STROM doesn't prefer to defend bigs when they get the ball but keep them from getting it. How is your Russian import working out ? CAL U had a 6'3" Muscovite about 8 years ago who played a fair amount but never dominated as expected.

Daria-Hanna Koul is a freshman from Minsk, Belarus (not Russia - I didn't realize that till I looked it up). The only thing that I know about Minsk is that is the destination of the main character in "Rochelle, Rochelle." :-)

Koul was a difference-maker on Saturday when both Tewes and Obenrader got into foul trouble. She scored 8 points on 4/4 shooting as the Lady Knights were able to tread water while our two bigs were out. She gets open inside and lays the ball in the hoop when she gets it. She'll be a project, but is showing some early promise. You can't teach tall and she sure is tall at 6' 3".

West went 13-5 at home against the east.

Edinboro is 1-1 and is solo seventh place! If the season ended today, they wouldn't make the playoffs. Of course, if the season ended today, there would likely be some kind of national emergency that would render basketball unimportant.
