  • CIAA TOURNAMENT

This is the Wild West of conference tournaments. Anything can -- and usually does -- happen. There are many Bubble teams in the Atlantic paying very close attention.

Two games were played last night.

Claflin defeated Elizabeth City State, 70-60, in OT.
St. Augustine's took down Lincoln, 66-61.

    Today's schedule:

Shaw vs Fayetteville State (10 a.m.)

Livingstone vs. Bowie State (12:10 p.m.)

Claflin vs. Virginia State (6:40 p.m.)

    St. Augustine's vs. Johnson C. Smith (8:50 p.m.)

If the live stat feed is correct, WSSU just broke somebody's heart.

Yep, we just beat Fayetteville State 63-62. Got fouled on a 3 with less than 5 seconds to go and hit all 3 free throws.

This is our first conference championship since 2012. I don't expect much from us in the NCAA tournament, but this was a pleasant surprise for a team that was picked to finish 4th in our division this year.

Congrats! That's why they call it March Madness!

Million dollar question now is how many teams does the CIAA get in to the dance?

Barring bid thieves in the other two conferences, I'd be very surprised if the number of CIAA teams isn't two.

WSSU probably knocked Virginia State out of the tournament tonight. I'm thinking Fayetteville at 6 or 7 with WSSU at No. 8 (barring PSAC or MEC interloper). J.C. Smith could have an argument.
