I share your frustration. I think public health is trying to slow the spread ( which is exponential in nature) until warm weather can help knock down the cases. Modeling indicates we don't have enough available beds or equipment should this take off like in Italy. Hence the draconian measures that seem like overkill.

Is there a lot of overwrought panic? Sure there is.

But the danger is very real, too. Ten times more fatal than the common flu. You'd better believe some serious measures were going to be taken.

Two things that are becoming clear about Corona. First, it is a virus everyone can contract and second, if you are not in the at risk group (+70 and/or with an compromised pulminary system), the risk of having Corona is small. Vast majority of people who get Corona see symptoms akin to the common cold or a minor case of the Flu.

If you are in the first AND second group, practice universal precautions (frequent hand washing (20 seconds with hot water), don't touch your face, increase "social space" (2.5-4 is the norm, increase to 7-10) for ALL interactions and avoid large gatherings. It also seems like the addage of "Sunlight is the best disinfectant" is a good one with Corona. Weather permitting, go outside...open the door...let the sunshine in (Corona survives 2 seconds when exposed to the suns UV rays.

Additional precautions for persons in the first group. Spend most time at your residents, plan necessary trips to places during "off peak" times (times when fewer people are there), avoid discressionary contact outside of your immediate family/social group, shower before leaving AND after returning home, if you become sick CALL your doctor and comply with his/her instructions. And again, when the weather permits, get outside in the sun.

Everyone needs to realize two things, first, there are things you can do to drastically reduce your chances of catching Corona and second, there is no pill or shot currently available that will prevent you from getting Corona or cure it once you have it (screaming to the ER everytime you or your kids cough does no good and in fact, increases the opportunity to get Corona).

I hope GoVSU and Layton haven't jumped in the car yet. WLU made it official today that they're planning to follow the DII recommendation of playing the games but without general public present.
