  • CAL U VULCANS WBB 2020....??

It seems that things are proceeding in anticipation of playing in the '20-21 season. First announced commits for JESS STROM are a significant transfer and a HS player.
DEJAH TERRELL 6'1" F, Reading PA, Berks Cath. and Albright College. Played 29.5 mpg as a Soph, scoring 21.5 ppg with 12.4 rpg for the D3 Lions who finished 22-6. WBCA AA honorable mention and ECAC D3 POY. In HS 1st Team PIAA D4A ALL STATE. Don't know how her talent will translate in the PSAC but the team has really had a need inside since SEAIRRA BARRETT left.
JULIANA BURRIS 5'7" PG, Dublin, OH, Coffman HS, OPSWA D1 All State Honorable mention, scored 12.8 ppg for 22-4 team. Unless something has changed I don't see her getting significant minutes behind JASPER and HERRINGTON. Curiously her videos shows a significantly better game going to the basket than anyone on the team currently.

It will be interesting to see if JS will let BURRIS get the amount of playing time that MIKI GLENN got in '13-14. In 12-13, KATE SEEBOHM was the PG on a 22-9 team and had her PT cut in half when MG arrived. I have a sense JASPER could end up sitting a lot if BURRIS is the real deal AND can shoot FREE THROWS. MG got 42% of her points that year at the stripe. Neither SPORIO or JASPER have come close since then.

VULCANS WBB signs AZATAH LAWRENCE 5'10" G/F from ICHS in MONTCLAIR NJ. Apparently had some D1 interest from LIU. Videos show strong aggressive player with some 3pt skill. Along with BURRIS and TERRELL looks like a small but skilled incoming class.

I am never one to question decisions made by JESS STROM but this latest signing leaves me scratching my head.

Unless someone has left that I haven't heard about this average scoring, 12.6ppg, junior transfer from Lackawanna College is making a long trip from Scranton to watch and cheer from the bench. Behind JASPER, HERRINGTON, BENNETT and WOODYARD returning and BURRIS incoming, it's going to take some extraordinary circumstances for her to get out of her warmups. The BUDDY HOLLY glasses are pretty nice however.

            Probably just a walk-on.

Don't know her official status but she's apparently a part of this year's class.

So as officially posted VULCANS WBB has these 10 returnees....

                  https://mobile.twitter.com/CALU_wbb

                  plus these 4 newcomers....

                  https://calvulcans.com/news/2020/5/6...ing-class.aspx

The returning 10 accounted for 62.9 ppg and played on average 19.1 mpg with only 3 below 10 mpg. My guess for the starting 5 will be JASPER, ALLEN, HUDSON, HARRISON and TERRELL. Second 5 getting 10-20 mpg will be HARRINGTON, BENNETT, WOODYARD, VALLECORSA and MCPEEK. The possible pairing of 6'0" MCPEEK with 6'1" TERRELL and 5'11 HARRISON in a big front line intrigues me but JESS STROM doesn't seem comfortable with the slower pace of that sort of offense although it could improve their DRB #s. With the fall semester ending at T'giving, I'm guessing there will be more than usual empty(intentionally) arena games. Wonder how playing like that affects a team's game?

Any news about when play will start? No roster or schedule listed. Any news at all concerning either of the Cal teams?

Nothing so far. Waiting for PSAC to announce plans for all '20-'21 athletics. Hybrid live/on-line classes to begin in the Valley on 1/25/21. Best place to keep up with VULCANS sports is Twitter. @CALU_wbb tweets regularly and connects with a lot of players.
Important bit of news if you didn't know.....
JACK JOSEPH STROM, 21", 8 lb 7oz PG committed to VULCANS MBB Class of 2038 on 10/16/20. Word is he's going to be a crazy aggressive defender who learned from the best.

The season allegedly starts on Jan 17th. Games will be scheduled on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Teams will play within their own division. Of course this is the plan until the plan changes. Needlessly putting student athletes at risk apparently is more important than staying healthy...

Last time I looked Cal and SRU are the only two rosters not posted.

SRU has historically always been the last to post.
