It's somewhat of a harsh ranking for ESU, but definitely defensible. The bubble teams are close together, and ESU's non-conference losses are really bad.

Well, that makes it fairly sticky. Looks like WCU on Saturday is a must-win for Ship.

ESU is the kind of team that can steal the PSAC tournament , though. you don't want to depend on that, but if they or Ship get hot during the tournament, look out.

ESU plays at West Chester on Saturday...And for the second time this season, they'll play West Chester on short rest...

It just wasn't one win for SRU over Mercyhurst ... they swept them.

Now that there are finally some 'official' rankings out ... here's a quick list of the most important remaining regular season games in the Atlantic:

                    FEB. 21
                    Concord at Notre Dame
                    Fairmont State at Charleston

                    FEB. 23
                    East Stroudsburg at West Chester

                    FEB. 27
                    West Chester at Shippensburg
                    Notre Dame at West Liberty

Yes, upsets can (and may) happen. But, those head-to-head games will play a huge role in choosing that Final 8.

5-10 will be driven largely by how they do in their conf tourney.

How the region's top 10 fared this weekend:

                        MEN

                        1. IUP: Clarion (W), Cal (W)
                        2. West Liberty: West Virginia Wesleyan (W), Glenville State (W)
                        3. Virginia State: Bowie State (W), Lincoln (PA) (W)
                        4. Mercyhurst: Cal (W), Gannon (W)
                        5. West Chester: Lock Haven (W), East Stroudsburg (L)
                        6. NDC: Concord (W), Virginia-Wise (L)
                        7. Slippery Rock: Edinboro (W), UPJ (L)
                        8. Shippensburg: Mansfield (W)
                        9. Fairmont State: Charleston (W), West Virginia State (Sun.)
                        10. East Stroudsburg: Bloomsburg (W), West Chester (W)

My take: West Chester may have just slipped onto the bubble while East Stroudsburg may have gotten a boost with their win at WC today, possibly enough of a boost to get closer to, if not overtake, Slippery Rock. Everything else seems to be status quo, other than Shippensburg moving up, though where ESU ends up depends on Sunday's game between Fairmont and WV State.

                        THE WEEK AHEAD

                        1. IUP: at Edinboro (Wed.), vs. Seton Hill (Sat.)
                        2. West Liberty: vs. Notre Dame (Wed.), at Wheeling Jesuit (Sat.)
                        3. Virginia State: vs. Winston-Salem State/Elizabeth City State, CIAA Tournament in Charlotte (Wed.)
                        4. Mercyhurst: at UPJ (Wed.), vs. Edinboro (Sat.)
                        5. West Chester: at Shippensburg (Wed.)
                        6. NDC: at West Liberty (Wed.), at Urbana (Sat.)
                        7. Slippery Rock: vs. Gannon (Sat.)
                        8. Shippensburg: vs. West Chester (Wed.), at Bloomsburg (Sat.)
                        9. Fairmont State: at West Virginia State (Sun.), vs. West Virginia Wesleyan (Wed.), vs. Shepherd (Sat.)
                        10. East Stroudsburg: vs. Kutztown (Wed.), at Millersville (Sat.)

                        WOMEN

                        1. IUP: Clarion (W), Cal (L)
2: Virginia Union: Elizabeth City (W), Chowan (W)
                        3. Glenville State: Wheeling Jesuit (W), West Liberty (W)
                        4. California: Mercyhurst (W), IUP (W)
                        5. Bowie State: Virginia State (W), Elizabeth City State (W)
                        6. Edinboro: Slippery Rock (W), Clarion (W)
                        7. West Liberty: West Virginia Wesleyan (W), Glenville State (L)
                        8. Charleston: Fairmont State (W), Shepherd (W)
                        9. Concord: NDC (W), Urbana (W)
                        10. Bloomsburg: East Stroudsburg (L)

My Take: IUP may have taken themselves out of hosting rights for the women's tournament, depending on how Virginia Union fares in next week's CIAA Tournament. Barring any upsets in Charlotte, there's a good chance the regionals will return to Richmond. Bloomsburg looks to have played their way out of the top 10, while 7, 8 and 9 are pretty much up for grabs in the final week of MEC play.

                        3. Glenville State: at Shepherd (Wed.), vs. West Virginia Wesleyan (Sat.)
                        4. California: at Clarion (Sat.)
                        5. Bowie State: vs. winner of Winston-Salem State vs. Elizabeth City State/Shaw, at CIAA Tournament in Charlotte (Wed.)
                        6. Edinboro: vs. IUP (Wed.), at Mercyhurst (Sat.)

                        8. Charleston: at Virginia-Wise (Wed.), at West Virginia State (Sat.)

Rock, Notre Dame and WCU losing created some chaos on the men's side.

This week you have Notre Dame playing at West Liberty. ND drops that one and it's a big problem for them. Yesterday was a really bad loss for the Falcons.

West Chester's game at Shippensburg this Wednesday has taken on a new meaning for both parties.

Slippery Rock has big problems now. Getting blown out in Johnstown isn't a good look for a bubble team.

CIAA regular season is complete. Remember when Chowan was getting a lot of press on here? They finished 12-14. Horrendous second half.
