A bit over a week into the season I have to say my cautious optimism is still there. Two 3 pointers, 1 missed and 1 made, are the difference between the 1-2 VULCANS and the 3-0 VULCANS. Versus BSU, PEGRAM shot for the win missed, versus CHAS'TOWN their shot for the win didn't. Strong effort in both games with a lot of players just getting into rhythm as a team. Next three against @D&E, LHU and MANSFIELD should be wins before GSU and SHIP. Here's hoping.

What's the deal here ... He's not on the roster and hasn't played at all.

Is he sitting out this season?

Don't know the details of why he's not listed but he's definitely on campus per his tweets.

Don't know how good the BALD EAGLES will be this year but the VULCANS were fortunate to pull out a close win 73-70. Up by 10 with 3:00 left they did just enough to force LHU to try 1 final 3pt that didn't go and in some measure got back the game they lost against CHAS. Good even scoring with COLLINS and AJIKE 17, PEGRAM 16 and HOUSE 13. ALEXANDER 10 and COLLINS 9 RB. Good TO 13-20 but bad RB 38-41 and 3 PT 6-25. On to MANSFIELD but they still aren't there rotation wise.

Second half of the X-OVER weekend was much easier CAL U. 89. MANS. 69. Led by ALEXANDER 20, HOUSE 14+11RB, COLLINS 13 and three others in double figures. 13-29 3s, RB 42-40 and an all around good effort. After break some serious competition in @GSU and @SHIP. So far a good start with serious contributions from Freshmen AJIKE and HOUSE blending well with PEGRAM, COLLINS and ALEXANDER.

Long trip to GSC for solid OOC win... CAL U. 83. GSC. 72. Led by COLINS 23, ALEXANDER 19, PEGRAM 17. RB ALEXANDER 11, AJIKE 8, 3 with 7. FG %. 47.8 FT % 82.4 This game turned on VULCANS taking the ball inside outscoring GSC 58-36 in the paint when the 3s were not going 3-15. PIONEERS kept bombing away but 9-38 isn't going to win many games. With PEGRAM, COLLINS , HOUSE at 40 minutes and ALEXANDER at 39, it appears the 5th spot will be split among HALL 20, AJIKE 17 and SMITH 4. This game looked the most organized and under control even when GSC made a few runs, it never felt like they gained the upper hand. Now a week to get ready for a trip to SHIP on Saturday.

Worst game of the season and yet not terrible. @ 11:41 of the 2nd half the score was 46-45. And then the roof fell in. Combo of SHIP MADE SHOTS and OFF RB off MISSES squeezed the life out of the VULCANS. All in all they got killed on the BDS 28-50, at the line 3-6 against 19-25 and the much vaunted ( by me) FRESHMEN played like FRESHMEN. In 71 of 200 minutes played the newbies contributed 3-17 shots, 7 of 28 RB, 1 AST and 1 STL. There will be better days ahead after 10 days off for exams and the back on the road @ CARLOW, @ WCU and @ MILL. Time will tell.

Ain't no easy way to say it ... if you play true freshmen ... you got problems.

They have their good moments. And, a lot of bad ones.

This game went exactly as a schedule filler game versus an independent NAIA school should go. Dominance in all aspects pretty much from start to finish. Career high 36 for BRENT PEGRAM along with 9 assists. HOUSE 18, ALEXANDER 16 and HALL 13 also in double figures. Most worrisome aspect was the absence of AJIKE who apparently has a hand/wrist issue that will keep him out 3 weeks. Very challenging game on FRIDAY vs #14 and undefeated WCU at HOLLINGER. Better chance against MILLERSVILLE on SATURDAY.

Well it was very challenging as expected but winnable. For the third time this season the VULCANS came within one shot of an upset but couldn't close the deal. Two major factors decided this game...missed 3s and missed FT. 7-27 from deep and 16-27 from the line. Obviously a tiny change in either of these stats and WCU is no longer undefeated. Woulda, coulda, shoulda. Never quit attitude was very positive. Down 12 with 2:12 to go, 3 players fouled out, 2 with 4 and they came within a long shot of winning. Proud, but unsatisfied with these close games.
HOUSE continues to impress with 22 on 7-15 and 4-9 3s playing 40 min tied with COLLINS at #2 scorer. COLLINS 16, PEGRAM 12, SMITH 11 and HALL 10 rounded out the scoring but their combined 3-15 from the arc pretty much was the game.
Some day I'll have to find the time to analyse the home court advantage on FT in the PSAC. Basically just the norm for home and visiting teams. May be nothing....

Finally the hard work pays off. Not that beating MILLERSVILLE is a major accomplishment, but fighting back to win is. I'm certain that the holiday break will be happier with this W in the books.
Other than a slight edge to MU in RB, the stats were as close as the score. Edge to VULCANS in players FO as ALEXANDER, 7pts/1rb didn't matter nearly as much as WILLIAMS, 20/4 and SULLIVAN, 14/5, did for the MARAUDERS. Don't know how far MILL can go this year but they will regret letting this one get away.

Keep in mind 12 of WCU's free throws cam in the final 90 seconds when WCU was leading by 8. WCU going only 8 of 12 down that stretch and Cal's made prayer 3's made it a buzzer game.

When you get beat 56-35 on the boards you're usually going to get into foul trouble. That must have been a rough game to watch with 76 combined FTs.
