... and it takes WCU five minutes to pull back within five points. Whole new game.

Shippensburg gets a big save from sophomore Jaydon Smith, who short-circuits West Chester's comeback en route to a career-best 30 points. The Golden Rams get back within two, but Ship holds them off from there and puts it away at the line (28-35). Raiders win 85-74. Anthony McCall's 18 leads four WCU guys in double figures.

One of the more poised performances by the Raiders this year as they were hacked on almost every trip down the court the second half — some were called, many were not. The home and away performances of this team have been day and night this season.Originally posted by jrshooter View PostShippensburg gets a big save from sophomore Jaydon Smith, who short-circuits West Chester's comeback en route to a career-best 30 points. ESU struggles at the FT line again, and falls at Shepherd 100-95 in double OT. The Warriors missed 9 at the stripe, and although teams don't shoot free throws like they used to, ESU was worst in FT% in the PSAC heading into today. West Chester losing squeezes everything in the East right now with the top 4 teams within 1 game of each other.Similar to last season, the East could is likely to be decided on Feb 28th. ESU travels to West Chester that day in a game that could settle the East. ESU holds a tiebreaker over Millersville by virtue of a regular season sweep. They split with Shepherd, and have one loss to West Chester already. Millersville also finishes with West Chester on 2/25, and they'll watch everyone else finish on the 28th. Interesting to say the least!!

Curious, does ESU always platoon players like they did in this game? It looked like hockey sometimes. I noticed Shepherd had a completely different starting 5 in this game. I was concerned by the 2nd OT that Shep. Would run out of gas with only 7 deep. Rams came out and dominated!Originally posted by WarriorVoice View PostESU struggles at the FT line again, and falls at Shepherd 100-95 in double OT. Pressing teams typically sub frequently, sometimes doing 5 for 5 line changes. It takes a lot out of the pressing players.Originally posted by Ramhead View Post

ESU's press isn't nearly as vaunted as playing against WL or Gannon.
Most PSAC teams still play the much slower half-court style.

East Stroud usually seems to play what I'd call more of a "nuisance" press with not quite as much intensity as a WL-style team. They do platoon heavily and count on pushing the tempo and having a fresher team in the second half against teams that don't match their depth. This year they've had a key injury and I don't think they shoot as well as a Wilson team usually does, especially at the FT line as WarriorVoice has detailed. That said, I'm not looking forward to Ship playing them up there on Saturday as the Raiders haven't exactly been road warriors this season. This has been an odd year for the PSAC and especially the East, which doesn't seem to have a team that wants to win the division.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View Post

Had a bad tumble onto his right shoulder in the second half of Saturday's game with West Chester. Finished out that game, but apparently is out injured tonight. Obviously Ship is screwed if he is absent for long.Originally posted by jrshooter View PostVery curious to know why Markus Frank hasn't shown up in the first 10 minutes at Kutztown.

Yeah, in addition to the injury being bad news for the team and Markus, the timing was particularly bad because that's a road game they could have had. Hard to replace Markus's 20 points a game and open-court ability. Really too bad as he and Jaydon Smith were starting to become something of a two-headed monster, as the West Chester game indicated. If he's still out Saturday, it could get very ugly against an East Stroud team smarting from their earlier defeat at Ship.Originally posted by jrshooter View Post
Pretty apparent from last night's result.

Credit to Justin Namolik who has also dealt with injuries this season. Cole Paar hasn't played all year. They knocked ESU out of the PSAC Tourney last year, and will be a tough matchup, especially if they find a way to host a game.Originally posted by Ramhead View PostShepherd moving up the charts with a bullet after a big win against Millersville. They are in 2nd place and play WC next week.
