    Rains it pours.

Word is star senior guard Maria Cerro is in a boot and on crutches.

Another starting guard, Gina Adams, has yet to play this year due to an injury.

Cerro is a devastating loss. No word on the extent of the injury but it's probably safe to say she's going to miss an extended period.

The ladies looked pretty rough last night but escaped.

Of note, starting guard Gina Adams wasn't dressed and two depth guards weren't on the bench. No idea on their status.

Tune-ups are over. IUP plays at Fairmont State tomorrow. Both are 2-0.

Carey's bunch was picked third yesterday. I think that could actually be a little low. That may be a powerful team this year. Four starters back, strong (upperclassmen) guards and three impact transfers (proven D2 players).

He addressed the two biggest needs (adding experienced post players and depth). Recall this team played nearly ironman last year, finished 18-10 and easily could have been 22-6.

The ladies should have a pretty big season.

Concern would be if the two star guards can play nice.

    The women's roster is up.

One surprise is the return of Teirra Preston. She is listed as a graduate student.

    Carey had a nice off-season.

He signed two impact transfers underneath in Grace Centrulla (Mercyhurst) and Nyshae Weaver (AB). Both are above 6'0 and have had a lot of success at this level. This was an area that was exposed a year ago. He appears to have done a great job addressing it. With Preston also returning, IUP will be pretty strong and very physical under the basket.

The top four guards from last year -- Janeira Scott, Kiera Baughman, Maria Cerro and Gina Adams -- all return. Carey also added Rahmena Henderson (averaged 10 ppg game last year at Southeastern Missouri).

Some of the deeper bench names from a year ago are gone.

Looking back, Carey did pretty well last year under the circumstances. He has some expectations now with this team. They should be pretty strong.

Well, one way or another, he's the new HC.

His post players, my opinion, cost them at least 3-4 games a year ago with their consistent tendencies to miss easy layups. That 18-10 record easily should have been 22-6. He's really bulked up the post. Aside from the two portal recruits, he'll also get Molly Howard back underneath (who missed the season last year with an injury).

    Starting lineup should be:

    Cerro
    KB
    Gina Adams
    Weaver
    Centrulla

He should also be much, much deeper this season. Much different vibe heading in to this season. He had some major hurdles last year along with a lot of learning on the fly.

Two big transfer additions signed this week for the ladies.

Nyshae Weaver (F) from Alderson Broaddus ... averaged 14 and 9 last year. Listed at 5'11".

Grace Centrulla (F) from Mercyhurst ... Averaged 11 and 6 last year and shot nearly 40 percent from outside. Listed at 6'0".

They also signed a high school guard from Spain.

I'd take that as a good sign he is now the official HC.

Their last game was FEB 27. You'd surely think if they were opening the position it would have been done weeks ago. I'd have to assume at this point the interim tag is (has been) removed.

The athletic department is busy this week getting ready for a regional. I'm sure that coaching situation will be on the agenda after they get through this.
