  • Private schools at risk of closing

FYI Here is a partial list of private schools in financial trouble according to the blogger.

Bethany and Alderson broaddus got bailed out by usda. Bethany got $40m loan from usda to benefit rural communities. Makes little business sense. Hard to argue harm to community when there is another college less than 10 miles away.
Malone, Ashland and wju are on the list.

Somewhat reassuring that none of the PSAC privates are on this list. With consolidation coming due to decreased state funding a certainty in the near future, the survival of the conference will depend in large measure on the number of schools. Can't say the same for smaller conferences like the MEC and GMAC unfortunately.

The PSAC is such a large conference there should be no worries about its survival. I would guess that individual schools could be worried about consolidation but the conference should have no issues.

The demise of some of these schools seems greatly exaggerated. It is difficult to imagine Rider and Marywood on that list, for example. Did CW Post just go D1 in football?

CW Post and Long Island are now one athletic program. Because of this Long Island can go to FCS right away because Post had football.

Rider has been in financial trouble for years.
