Another close one down the tubes. Too much sloppy play from #2 at the point (bad passes & turn overs). Not much game/court IQ. JS runs the legs off the five starters and cant finish the game strong. Not much help from those three most of the year for the time they get.

The five top minute players are playing a total of 6 minutes more than the average of the last 5 years. This is partly due to the loss of Olivia Hudson and having to pick up the 23 minutes a game she was playing before her injury. From the start of pre-season camp all VULCANS WBB players know they are going to run and run and run some more. It's the way Jess Strom played the game and it has been the game she coaches from the beginning. Hence her average record of 20-6 over 11 seasons as HC. CAL U is extremely blessed to have this amazing staff for eight straight years.

As noted on another thread, IUP-CAL WBB is a strange rivalry. There is NO WAY a team wins FG% 47.1- 33.3, 3PT% 35.7- 22.9, FT% 75-66.7 and RBDS 37-34 yet loses the game 59-64. And yet it happened. Two stats counted more than the rest. Because IUP turned the ball over 17 times they only took 51 shots versus 69 for CAL which made FG shooting a wash despite a much better %. Comes down to FT. VULCANS ultra aggressive defense got those 17 turnovers with only 12 PF against 17 PF for the C HAWKS. CAL wins the game at the line 10/15 versus 6/8. Makes Monday's loss at SHEP all the more puzzling and frustrating.

JS won the close one, congrats. Used the bench more but the legs are still tired. Hopefully she can beat the C'hawks in the post season when it counts.

Actually JS used the bench less than normal. The season average for the starters is 151.8 minutes per game while yesterday they played 185 minutes. Some of the confusion may be that Herrington played 30 minutes after Allen hurt her knee after 5 minutes. The 4 subs, Gales-3, Woodyard-7, Burris-3 and McPeek-2, were all used to give the starters a breather from time to time.
If a close game is defined as +/- 5 pts, VULCANS WBB has played two and split them. Otherwise they've won 14 games by 21 pts on average and lost 3 by 11 pts per game.

VULCANS WBB finally broke a 7 game losing streak to BORO, by totally dominating the SCOTS 72-48. For a change decent shooting, FG-44.6%, 3PT-29.2% and FT-76.5%, lead by Terrell-18/13/5, Allen-14/8, Loyd-14/6A and Harrison-16. Rebound 46-34, assists 18-3 and TO 13-20 all favored the home team.
?????Tough week coming @UPJ, @SHU and CLARION. Must win 2 of 3.

Game versus UPJ is not much of a challenge because of a rare solid shooting night. VULCANS WBB beat the Mountain Cats 61-40 with 51% FG, 42% 3PT and 60% FT. shooting and 20 TO. Terrell 21/6 and Harrison 13/4 led handed scoring.
Next up is @SHU in Greensburg.

Don't know how they did it but the VULCANS WBB beat the STEWIES of SHU 60-51 shooting FG-38.3, 3PT-.05% and FT-92.9%. The difference was most of SHU PFS were shooting fouls and CAL converted 13/14 versus 5/8 for the final difference of 8pts. This was the 18th game of 22 that the JS defense held the opposition to 60 points or less.
With home games versus CLARION, SRU and 'HURST, it's likely the home court for the PSAC WBB CHAMPIONSHIP will be decided at GANNON on the last day of the season.

Forgot to mention that Dejah Terrell had a great game even with a sprained ankle late in the fourth. 19 PTS, 16 RBDS, 6BLKS and 5ASSTS is by far the best game of her outstanding season. Thankfully she should be able to sit out Saturday's game versus CLARION.

Almost blew it at the end with sloppy ball control but won the close one. Solid game my #5 offense & defense, brings a different spark to the court.

Hopefully that ankle is not an issue going forward because VULCANS WBB has no comparable big if DT isn't up to her usual game. An outstanding player and outside of K FRATZ the best transfer recruit that Coach Jess has ever landed.

Not entirely unexpected CAL U WBB-31 CLARION-11. Kind of rare is that the G EAGLES were shut out in the 2nd period. Otherwise Dejah Terrell isn't apparently suffering any ill effects from her sprained ankle at SHU on Wednesday evening. She has 17pts, 6 rbds and 2 blks in 19 minutes.

Final in the Valley, VULCANS WBB-62 GEAGLES-42. Pretty much the Dejeh Terrell show....21 Pts, 14 Rbds and 3 Blks. Loyd added 13pts and 5assts, Harrison 12 pts. Pts off TO plus 14 and 2nd chances pts plus 6 accounted for the differential.

Another game against an out of it team VULCANS WBB 62 SRU 45. ROCK players didn't quit to their credit but had trouble handling the pressure and turned the ball over 22 times leading to 21 pts which was the game. CAL U stats were not good (FG-31.4%/3PT-21.7%/FT-68.4%) but when a team gets an extra 21 shots in a game accuracy is less important.
Another season closer versus 'HURST WBB on Wednesday before playing GU for the West title on Saturday.

'HURST WBB was eliminated from post season play by the VULCANS 75-54. Other than 3pt shooting, CAL'S game was sloppy but the LAKERS were worse. Hitting 8-15 3s to 3-9 for the visitors pretty much sealed the deal but for good measure getting 10 extra TOs and 13 extra shots concluded things.
A brief rest before heading to Erie on Saturday to decide the #1 seed in the West against GANNON.
