So...Since Bluefield has a Crutch acolyte as their new HC in former Topper Devin Hoehn, his commitment to running the WLU Style and Bluefield's position in MEC Country, Atlantic Region seems like a good place to discuss all things Bluefield.

The WLU Style has a great track record of producing INSTANT turn arounds if installed completely from day 1. With Hoehn's commitment to playing the style, five players in the transfer portal and five listed seniors on the 2020-21 roster (don't know if or how many of those will come back), he will have ample opportunity to bring in a new crew of players. Based on Twitter, looks like Hoehn is mining Florida heavily and also has a couple of internationals in the fold!

MEC will get six opportunities to see BSC up close and personal and they are also in the Fairmont season opening turney (although they don't play Fairmont). Tourney is Nov 13-14 with the first BSC v MEC game on the 16 at Concord. BCS also plays AB twice, D&E, Charleston and then closes out their MEC slate in March with another match-up with Concord.

From a school stand point, I like the direction of Bluefield. Early reports are that their fall Freshman enrollment is 600 students (a record for them) which, according the President Capehart represents 45% of their student body (would put total enrollment north of 1200). HUGE move in the right direction! Also minority enrollment is is up to 22% from just 3%...positive sign for an HBCU that appears to be aggressively trying to move back in that direction. they also opened up their first on-campus residence hall for the first time in 40 years. AND the brand new football team is 3-1 on the season!! MEC may want to get ahead of the pack and bring them in as at least an associate member in Football and Basketball

Watched BSC's first game under HC Hoehn. They won 95-92 over Bluefield University. You could see the WLU Style with the constant full court trap which produced turnovers with regularity. on the offensive end, many of the familiar sets and weaves but quite a few breakdowns. Way to many times a player would get the ball and revert to playground ball. When they did run the weave and/or make that no dribble pass, the open shots were available. Unfortunately, they struggled shooting!

Kind of interesting seeing a group of players trying to play a different way than they are used to. Plenty of work to do but you can definitely see most of the players thinking their way through!

Think this might have been the previous administration but wow! Talk about going rogue...

Tough way to begin a "rebirth" of the athletic program. According to the NCAA report (link on the page), The violations occured over a three year span (2017/18-2019/20) and came to light after the new President (former WLU President Robin Capeheart) initiated personnel changes in the athletic department.

They didn't lose any schollys so for them, that's good. 3 years of probation stings a little. No ban on post-season play but I don't think that will be an issue for them.
