Not all regions are created equally (apparently).

Kind of like when the SR1 team gets hammered in football most years in the Final 4.

WTA&M is from a pretty good region though - they made the finals when Gannon hosted it.

The game is in the archived video on ncaa.com and the first half is worth watching if you want the Glenville experience - haven't seen Glenville play since they were in the 2013 regional at Gannon (they played the same way but the 2022 version is better). There are so many possessions and they force the pace. The opponent's possession ends in either a quick shot or turnover and the defense winds up standing around because they're so wiped out. And it gets ugly in a hurry if they are shooting the ball well.

I still wish that Gannon could have beaten Shepherd and gotten to play them out of sheer curiosity, but I fear that they are a similar team to WTA&M - a good defensive team that plays a slow pace and doesn't handle the ball particularly well.

      • West Texas A&M was pretty clearly the best team in the South Central (besides winning the regional, they won the regular season and tournament in the stronger of the region's two conferences). But... they lost five games to opponents from other regions. I think that says something about the region's strength compared to other regions.

        • Glenville State up 19 points with under 4 minutes to go in the Final Four. The Lady Pioneers dominated the second half after going toe-to-toe playing the GVSU brand of ball in the first half.

Grand Valley State has wanted no part in getting in a running match with Glenville this half. Glenville forced their hand by heating up in the 3rd quarter.

          • Glenville State women scored the most points on GVSU than any team had done all year. Absolute domination in the second half.

4 Lady Pioneers score in double figures against the nation's top defensive team.

Glenville State defeats Grand Valley State 77-53.

Congrats to GSC and Head Coach Kim Stephens.

                      • Final score: Glenville State 85 Western Washington 72. The Lady Pioneers are the NCAA D2 Women's Basketball National Champions.

And let me get this out there.....Glenville returns their top 5 scorers next season.......their big loss is Stoller who is their 6th leading scorer and 2nd leading rebounder......but rest assured, HC Kim Stephens will go out and get two big time players to replace her two seniors. Glenville will be a heavy favorite to repeat next season.

                          • Congrats to Glenville! Truly spectacular season! The great thing about college basketball is that there are so many ways to play it and be successful. They play a fun and interesting brand and they do it well!

                            • So happy for Glenville!
played a tall and talented Western Washington team.
they dominated in forced turnovers 25 to 8, scoring 30 points to 4 for West. Wash.
and won battle of offensive rebounds and FTs. They were smart about not fouling,

Allowed Glenville to overcome a 53% to 41% FG advantage for West. Wash.
the two platoon system and pressure wore the opponent down in 4th qtr.

To put into perspective, look at enrollment:
                              Glenville 1600
                              West. Wash. 16,000+
                              Grand valley state 25,000+
                              West Texas a&m 10,000
