  • WVSU is about to drop another game. This time to D&E. They continue to be the most talented 7-loss team I've ever seen. Totally inexplicable.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but West Chester, even with a guy or two out, matches up well with ESU. ESU likes to turn a game into a modified form of street ball, and West Chester is just fine with that. Most of the time, you need to drag WCU in a halfcourt grinder. Impressive win for Millersville tonight. That will be a war at Ship next week.

            • West Chester swept East Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg swept Shippensburg, and Shippensburg swept West Chester.

All three are very close to the top-8 cutoff right now.

If you're coaching any of the top few teams in the East you just have to worry about getting through the grind of the next two weeks.

Not the place to be with tournament winners not coming from the top 8.

To my uneducated eye it looks like by the end of the regular season IUP, Mercyhurst, West Liberty, Fairmont and Virginia Union should be solidly in the tournament based on current records and what they have left to play. That’s going to leave a big glut of teams with 7-9 losses desperately trying to win their conference tourney to avoid sweating it out on selection Sunday. If some combination of those top 5 win all the conference tourneys it’ll be a mathematician’s dream trying to pick the three teams to fill out the field.

Right. In the MEC, for instance, WVSU is exactly the kind of program (or even a real dark horse like Glenville) that could be outside the top-8 in Regional rankings and then get hot/focused for three days at the conference tourney and play their way in.

And if history is any indication, VUU won't win the CIAA tourney--for some reason the top seed rarely does.

Ironic thing in the East is that Ship and Millersville have probably been playing the most consistent ball in the division over the past few weeks, but are in the most danger of 9-10 losses. That one-point loss to Millersville along with an inability to do what other East contenders have done — beat East Stroudsburg — is haunting the Raiders big-time.
