(I was actually just on your site about 10 minutes ago, Inkblot. It's like you're reading my mind . . . or looking at your site analytics and seeing where IP addresses are located, I suppose)

Fairmont State at Virginia Union today at 2 p.m.

I don't think VU has free broadcasts, however.

As Ship has already played (and lost narrowly to) both, I'll be interested in seeing how that one goes.

That's a week from today... there are no D2 games between the 19th and the 29th.

                West Virginia State (12-1)
                West Liberty (11-1)
                East Stroudsburg (10-1)
                Claflin (10-1)
                Mercyhurst 8-1)

                2-3 losses

                Virginia Union (11-2)
                Winston-Salem State (10-2)
                Slippery Rock (9-2)
                Lock Haven (8-2)
                Concord (7-3)

                3-4 losses

                Pitt-Johnston (8-3)
                Virginia State (10-4)
                Fairmont State (8-4)
                West Chester (7-4)
                Notre Dame (7-4)
                Davis & Elkins (9-4)

                5 losses

                Charleston (6-5)
                Shippensburg (6-5)
                Millersville (6-5)
                Shepherd (6-5)
                Seton Hill (6-5)
                Glenville State (6-5)

As always, (8) teams from the Atlantic Region get invited to the Dance (the champions of the CIAA, PSAC and MEC get an automatic bid - leaving (5) more spots).

My 'eye test' Top 8 as of Jan. 3 (which will likely change by the weekend):

                1. IUP - Hawks stay until knocked off
                2. West Liberty - WL has the H2H on WVSU
                3. West Virginia State - Pittman's return is trouble for the whole region
                4. East Stroudsburg - Warriors had one bad day after a long bus ride. Lesson learned.
                5. Mercyhurst - Odd loss at Millersville but dominant otherwise
                6. Virginia Union - Heavily battle-tested
                7. Winston-Salem State - Lost to IUP and then Virginia Union (OT)
                8. Claflin - Not sold yet but they are racking up wins
                ----------------------------
                9. Concord / Slippery Rock
                10. UPJ / Virginia State / Fairmont State

So four of Ship's losses so far this season are to teams with a combined record of 37-11. Nothing like an easy pre-New Year's schedule to get your team off to a great start,

Any team with 5 losses right now shouldn't be thinking about regionals...ESU Men are #23 this week!

Probably not. But, I usually keep them on the list until they crack the 8 mark.

So you're saying that with 10 losses, Gannon isn't likely to get an at large bid. :-) Still trying to convince myself that the Knights are an unfathomable 0-10. Good Lord.

Claflin won at Virginia Union tonight. That'll give their résumé a much-needed boost; entering the day they had the second-worst SOS in the region.

It was a busy past (7) days on the MEN's side in the Atlantic. Hard to believe but the regular season is at or close to half way done for many teams.
