        • D3/NAIA is a farm system for D2 now. D2 is a farm system for lower tiered D1 schools. Lower tiered D1 schools are a farm system for major D1 schools.

Sad place where college athletics is right now. No loyalty to schools, coaches, or teammates. All about "ME".

I'd argue that it makes it more about playing the sport than getting a degree. I work at a university, so I'm seeing athletes transferring with less than a year before graduation. That doesn't work well for you know, post-college work.

But for basketball, the best case scenario for these better players is either NBA G league ($40k salary) or playing overseas ($50-100k salary)

BINGO!!! It's few and far between that these athletes care about their education. Not many Brock Bowers in this world.

And that makes the entire system cynical.

                • Not that anything should really surprise us, but, ...

Former Millersville guard (and most recently former Slippery Rock guard) Day Waters has signed with ... Millersville.

                  He's going back.

Odd situation but a good signing regardless for the Marauders.

                    • Fairmont State's David Jolinder has pulled out of the Portal and will stay at FSU.

That's a big keep for the Falcons.

He will be one the of the top players in the Region this upcoming season.

                      • Cal's Bryson Lucas (SF) is one of the biggest Atlantic names still unsigned.

He's had some injury issues but is very dynamic when healthy. He was the PSAC West Defensive POY two years ago. Lucas can put up highlight reel dunks, run the floor, block shots and has a nice jump shot.

I don't know what injury caused him to miss all but the first several games last year but perhaps teams are scared off a bit.

If he's healthy, any D2 team in the country would take him. He could play in any system. He has that fairly standard D2 SF size but may be a bit undersized for the next level. He's about 6'6" and probably 190-195 lbs.

Cal's other three stars have all signed in D1 this offseason.

We'll never know but that Cal team could have been really, really good last year. No team is going to survive losing Lucas, Palek and Arnette (all for the season). Danny did a great job keeping them competitive.

                        • Looks like WLU signed Michael Batchelor from WV Wesleyan. Similar to the signing of the kid from Point Park, I have zero recollection of this kid from the two games against this opponent this season. I sure hope these are bigger impact singings than they look like on the surface.

I hope you're right, Columbus, when you surmised that maybe they were in the wrong system at their last stop. Fingers crossed.

I’m not sure if there are reports out there yet but I’d love to see the numbers on how many of these kids end up with degrees when their college athletic career ends. I’ll bet the percentages go way down when you transfer and gets exponentially lower with each subsequent transfer. Then they find themselves in their late 20’s and sports is over, they don’t have degrees, and they haven’t started a career path. I’m not saying they can’t figure it out and eventually find their way, but placing the higher value on athletics when you have a free degree in front of you eventually catches up.
