Kinda surprised that Wright has not added a point guard with some offensive punch and penetration ability. Thought it was an area that was lacking at times last year.

He's putting all his eggs into Cernuto being healthy this year + Bella Deere is officially on the active roster (medical RS last year).

He's very high on Cernuto/Mayes controlling the ball.

I expect Gannon to be very good again this year. I think IUP will make a statement too. Can Gannon 3-peat? I think they will be better than last year, and they still made the Elite Eight.

IUP did extremely well recruiting and in the portal. They also replace a couple players that in many ways, particularly in big moments, let them down last year. This will be the deepest and most talented team they’ve put on the floor during Carey’s tenure.

As for Gannon, I don’t think Cernuto has been fully healthy since she arrived, but boy is she good when she is. Above all else, she brings a level of toughness I felt that team lacked at times last year. IF she can stay on the floor, Gannon could be a national contender given the players they return.

I wouldn't go that far. Outside of Glenville State, hasn't the ceiling for the Atlantic region been about the national semis, if that far? I know Gannon and IUP have had a number of appearances in the Elite Eight, but I don't see Gannon being as good as they were two years ago and they got bounced in the first round of the Elite Eight.

All comes down to health (and eligibility as we have seen). Who can survive. I like IUP's chances this year.

ESU Women are off to a 2-0 start after sweeping their weekend games in Maryland. So G Brooke Droege has emerged as the early season scoring leader for the Warriors, averaging 17.5 ppg along with 7.5 rebounds a game. Her twin Brie was named PSAC Freshman of the Year, and is 2nd in scoring with 16 ppg. Jr G Lacie Kringe is 3rd with 10.5 ppg, and 6 rebounds a game. They haven't replaced the post scoring that Emily Chmiel provided them over the past 2 seasons, but they have better outside shooting. Their home opener is Saturday vs Jefferson.

They blew out Elizabeth City State by 43, which isn’t totally surprising, but their 70-32 dismantling of Virginia State was. Virginia State was picked as the #2 team in the conference pre-season poll. Things get a lot tougher this evening when IUP hosts perennial powerhouse Ashland.

Sad to hear Lily Jordan is out for the season. She really started to come on as a true freshman last year. Also, Naomi Zulueta missed the first two games with an injury, but it sounds like she could return soon. Luckily, they are very deep underneath.

The Virginia State win was surprising - not that they won but by how much. I think VSU was picked to win the CIAA.

ESU WBB had a rough start shooting last night. They went 5-16 in the 1st quarter, then went 4-20 in the 2nd. Jefferson put the game away with 28 points in the 3rd quarter. Jefferson wins 64-49. ESU hosts Staten Island Saturday at 1pm.

Yea..........what caught my attention was Wright's comments about the recruits as he usually is a bit more reserved in his assessments. For him to say that they " knocked it out of the park" is quite an endorsement of these three ladies. We shall see!

A great bounce-back win by ESU today against Staten Island. Avery White came out of the locker room on fire, and drained 6 3-pointers, 3 in the first Quarter. ESU led 17-10 after 1, and never looked back. White finished with 24 points. Brooke Droege added 12, and twin Brie put in another 6. Freshman Emma Thornton added 8 points off the bench. ESU is 3-1 and hosts St. Thomas Aquinas Tuesday at 5pm.
