You're probably correct that Gannon will host, but to say that Gannon's resume and West Lib's resume is not really close is not correct. Of the 4 losses by West Lib, 3 of those came against teams who are currently in the top 25 in D2. They also won their conference tournament, as we can all agree that the MEC this year is better than the PSAC.Originally posted by Bballfan View PostGannon will host.
The impact of conference tournaments on the seeding isn't as impactful as a whole season of work.
Now, when you have a couple schools on the womens side where there is a razor thin difference, yes. But Gannon's overall body of work is just more than WLU and they are not really that close.

I cannot envision a world in which West Liberty doesnt host this year. They have only 1 more loss than Gannon and the MEC is overall much stronger than the PSAC.Originally posted by TopperNation View Post

Interesting, I actually feel the other way: I cannot envision a world in which Gannon doesn't host this year.Originally posted by bballfan03 View Post

That being said, I do like the idea of conference tournaments carrying more weight.Last edited by Topper_Hopper; 03-08-2026, 08:07 PM.

Im throughly shocked. They dont deserve the hosting rights. They have one "big" win this year - Daemen. And the PSAC is so weak outside of Cal.Originally posted by Topper_Hopper View Post

I will say, though, for them to do anything they cannot do whatever they did today. Bazzoli fully strayed from the system first half vs IUP yesterday and all game today. Right out the gate Gannon was running the clock below 10 before looking for a shot. Then the shots werent falling, but they were doing well playing faster and driving... so they started taking stagnant 3s again lol
Did get a good chuckle today though... 2 guys wearing cal swag werw talking and the one says "only thing I dont like about this conference.. where we have to play. Coming up here or going down to west Virginia are not attracrive destinations." A guy wearing an IUP jacket tuened and politely said "Maybe you guys should win more games and change that". They both shut up.

If you look at Inkblots stats....
https://inkblotsports.com/d2stats/2526/mbb/at.html
Gannon has a stronger strength of schedule, an RPI of over 0.50 more, the PI almost 2.5 more, and the KPI is about 0.150 more. Those metrics are what is the determining factor.
The PSAC might be weak, but Gannon played a much tougher schedule than West Lib.

The same Cal team that has losses to Concord, Edinboro, Clarion and was blown out by Slippery Rock 10 days ago?
Cal's a sporadic team -- much like most of the teams in the field.
When Cal is engaged, they are very good. But, they've had some real head-scratchers this year. Gannon also failed to put that game away about 20 times yesterday.

I watched the first half Sunday and a bit of the end. I was surprised that Cal's strategy to inbound the ball against the Gannon press basically seemed to be "throw it to a tall guy." If they had an in-bounds play, I didn't see it much. Every in-bounds play seemed to be on a knife's edge, and the ball handling seemed precarious at times, yet Cal mostly got away with it. Once they did get it in-bounds they were able to control pace and get some nice set plays at their end. Of course it helped them that Gannon missed a ton of 3s — live by it, die by it, etc.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View Post

They were using that lob to Lucas to inbound for awhile there at the start and then Gannon started doubling it.Originally posted by Ship69 View Post

Keep in mind Lucas is a nice player to have against that pressure. He's one of the best overall athletes in the league and he's a legit 6'7".
Cal is the only team in the league Gannon can't physically bully. Danny has also played against that press for a very long time.
The zebra crew was also calling a lot of the grabbing and holding that comes with that press, which made it less effective yesterday. If they are getting away with that stuff, you have little chance to win.
If you watch how Cal breaks it, the first two passes are lightning quick. IUP does the complete opposite. Not only is the first pass slow but the second pass is even slower. Danny typically gets right through. Joe either gets trapped or barely makes it through.

Using cutting edge heuristic mathematics, constructive geometric modeling and functional notation, I was able to successfully come up with a complex algorithm that successfully predicted the SR1 Tourney participants with 88% accuracy. An advanced Beta test of a more refined mathematic algorithm was able to further predict the exact seeding of the SR1 teams with 71% accuracy.
I am currently working on a model built on a system-of-systems architecture that incorporates advanced statistical calculation to determine who should have been in the SR1 Tourney. This system is unbound by simple and arbitrary information such as W/L %, Head-to-Head results, etc. If I'm able to make it happen, this will give a true picture of the top 8 teams unbound by actual on court results. There is even a chance that if fully realized, I could actually predict who the NCAA DII tourney teams SHOULD be without playing the regular season and, dare I say, make, the NCAA Tourney completely unnecessary!
I will sell my mathematic model to all interested parties for one Bitcoin per transaction. All interested parties should DM me for payment instructions.

Every November it drives me insane to hear people say "It's November ... that loss doesn't matter."
Nov 15
Charleston - 89
Millersville - 84
Think that one mattered?
We can over-complicate this stuff to the moon but sometimes a head-to-head can be the deciding factor (I know ... it's a foreign concept, boring and very unscientific).
I am curious if the No. 7-seed Edinboro ladies -- owners of a whopping 13 losses -- have the most losses ever in the Atlantic to get a spot. I clearly get the PSAC West was the premier women's division in the Atlantic and the Scots played a really tough schedule. But, man, I can never recall a team with that many losses making the field.
