    Re: 2017-18 Performance Indicators

    Thanks Schnautza.

If there's a way for you to move Augustana up 9-10 spots or so, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

If they keep winning, I'll do that.
Actually, I'd love for them to finish strong since they were one of our losses this season. The better you guys look, the better we look.

Thanks for the info. Question please explain what column you would look at to determine regional ranking? Would it be the percentage or the last column.

In theory, they would be ranked in the order they are listed based on the 1st column. This column is the overall ranking nationally based on their P.I. (7th column).
In practice, there is always some slight variance when regional rankings come out that may be affected by any of the other columns shown, since regional rankings are not solely computer based. When regional rankings come out, I add another set of columns for wins over regionally ranked teams.

The basic premise of these numbers is that every game played is worth X number of points from 0 to 23 based on 3 factors:
          #1 being W/L,
#2 looking at where the game was played (home/neutral/road), and
          #3 looking at your opponent's win% (broken up into four categories of <25%, <50%, <75%, and 75-100%).

This point value is then averaged with all of the other games you play over the season (and yes, they adjust automatically if your opponent gets better or worse after you played them).
The average is listed in the P.I. column.

For more details on this process, here is the NCAA release from 2011 when they created this system

Interesting that this was just in 2011. I remember long before 2011 when MW's coach Smith was on the regional committee there was a points system similar to the PI; I don't think it was 23 points though; there may have just been two categories for the opponent's record, below .500 or .500 and above.

What's the variance in points between a home game win against a .500 team and a road game win against the same team? I know the D1 selection committee is stressing the difficulty of winning true road games more than in the past. (Ken Pomeroy has really harped on this not getting enough credit and therefore discouraging teams from playing home-and-home series). I know the D1 committee is perceived to be more subjective than Division II (or at least they'd like us to think it is) because they don't publish any data to go with their selections or weekly regional rankings, but I am curious what the numbers for W/L against a .500 team on home vs. road.

Thanks for all you do, Schnautza!

Based on the link provided, it looks like a 2 point difference for home/road.
