Re: 2018-19 Washburn Thread--All things Ichabod basketball

The Ichabods announced 3 transfers who will fill out their 2019-20 roster today. Garrett Belcher, 6'7" forward from Kaskaskia Jr. College. Averaged 8.9 pts and 5.9 rebounds and shot 55% from the field to help get his team to the National Juco Tourney in Hutchinson. Coach Ballard on Belcher, "Washburn fans will love Garrett's blue collar mentality. He is tough and gritty and loves to compete. We needed a versaltile big that could play on the perimeter but also score and rebound around the rim and Garrett can do both." Keven Biggs, 6'4" Guard from Pima CC and Fort Lewis. Averaged 17pts and 5.8 rebounds a game his last year at Pima. Coach Ballard on Biggs, "Keven was someone that we recruited hard our of junior college, especially after his team made a deep run the NJCAA tournament and he had a game in which he made 9 3's in the tourney. He can shoot it, but he also is a very good athlete that can finish at or above the rim. He helps us address our need for size and a physical presence on the perimeter." Drew Maschoff, 6'4" guard by way of the University of Sioux Falls and Pratt CC. As a soph. at Pratt CC, he averaged 11.8ppg, 5 rebounds and 1.7 assists. Coach Ballard on Drew, "We like Drew's ability to be the primary ball handler but also be able to play off the ball and make shots or slash. He has good size and a very solid all-around skill set that allows him to score at all three levels of the court." These 3 join an already stellar Freshman class of Tyler Nelson, Ahmad Louis, Levi Braun and Conner Deffebaugh. 7 newcomers to go with guards Tyler Geiman, Jalen Lewis and Isaiah Thorne and bigs 6'7" Sevon Witt, 6'9" Jonny Clausing and 6'6" Jace Williams. That is a solid 13. Looking forward to seeing how the 7 newcomers mesh with the 6 returnees.

Biggs has a chance to be a very good player for Washburn. Maschoff also is a skilled player that Washburn fans will like.

Re: 2018-19 Washburn Thread--All things Ichabod basketball

They look like some nice additions. Washburn will be young so bringing in these 3 transfers will give us more experience. We have been senior heavy the last 2 years. Biggs will be our only senior next year and we are going to depend on 4 Sophomores and 4 Freshman to play some major minutes. Our most experienced player back next year is point guard Tyler Geiman and he will be a Junior. Projected starting line-up: PG--Tyler Geiman, SG--Jalen Lewis, SG--Drew Maschoff, F--Garrett Belcher and C--Sevon Witt. We still have Clausing and Williams to come off the bench for the bigs and we have Keven Biggs, soph Isaiah Thorne and couple of the Freshman shooters--Nelson, Louis, Braun or Deffebaugh to come off the bench for the perimeter players. This seems to be a pretty versatile roster with a lot of nice wing shooters and some power inside with Clausing, Witt and Belcher. Geiman played a lot of minutes last year at the point but it looks like we may have more depth with Maschoff & Lewis at the point this season to give him a blow every now and then. The Bods have lost some nice players over the past 2 years (i.e. Skeens, Blake, Salach, etc) so this year's team is going to have many new faces. Should be a lot of fun.
