Waters looked like the next All-American front court player for NW after Hawkins graduates. The trio of Hudgens, Hawkins, and Waters totally dominated MSSU.

Do you think MoSo will change who they guard Waters with this coming thur? He made Martin look like he had never played man d before.

Yes. Not sure what changes Coach Boschee will make ... but if something doesn't work, he is not afraid to change things up.

But even then, such as when Welty went down for a couple of games, the other big 3 just stepped it up.
Depth is only a potential advantage when it comes into play. To cover for injuries, foul trouble, fatigue that hinders performance. You *should* be playing your 5 best players the maximum amount of minutes they can play. It isn't exactly apples to apples but even Coach K made a remark in recent years about why should I give minutes to lesser players over better players when they are available to play. The goal was to make the top 5 players the best they could be and that isn't happening with them sitting on the bench to play "depth".

Exactly. You aren't replacing that level of talent anyway. No matter how much "depth" you have.

They knew what they had... ;)

Therefore, it's hard to recruit and/or keep solid players in the program if they know their time is going to be limited. Injuries or transfers have included Finley (lost for year in game against Duke), Rhodes transfer to Florida Southern (if he could predict the future maybe he's still here and getting a lot of minutes with Finley out), and Blair transferred after about a week on campus but is a heck of a player and showing it at Duluth. Seems like he recruits for depth but can't keep them here most likely due to playing time. Additionally, when you've had 3 All-American point guards in a row, there won't be a lot of playing time for the backup.

Couple that with Dougherty out a few weeks this year with injury and now Waters banged up. Welty missed a few games with injury. They really haven't been lucky in the injury category this year but continue to play well.

I agree with Alfred33 about the Cam/Diego matchup. If Cam guards Diego and Diego can hit the 3 it changes the complete gameplan for MSSU to allow Cam to protect the rim. Additionally, the games NW have struggled this year have been with Hawkins in foul trouble so they have to keep him in the game.
It is disappointing that good talent has left but the positive is that Ben has been identifying good talent when recruiting. Re: Blair the reason I heard for leaving was not due to playing time.

I'd never really thought about that before, but thought it was a good point. I do agree with you pace of play assessment.
All of the stoppages are absolutely a factor.

Yeah, definitely not playing time when he left before the first week of classes and when I talked to coaches, they thought he would start as a freshman before he ever arrived on campus.

Round 2 and NW up 39-33 at half. Southern better get NW tonight because Martin is getting every call right now. Refs are letting him be physical while not letting the defense be physical back on him.

To be fair, the refs called a couple cheap ones against Southern towards the end of the half that shouldn't have been fouls but did even it up a little bit.

A crazy contrast in styles. The black hole v. share the ball. Has to be a joy to play with a black hole.
