  • MIAA Postseason Awards-2021--Men's Basketball

    Last year the awards came out on the Tuesday after the last regular season game. I am not going to pick them but I'm going to give you contenders for each team. Keep in mind, every first teamer last year was a junior or a sophomore so all are back this year. 1st team contenders: Ryan Hawkins & Trevor Hudgins-NWMS, Tyler Geiman--WU, Cam Martin-MSSU, Jared Vitzum--FHSU, Tyrell Carroll--MWSU & Isaiah Wade--UCO. 2nd team contenders: Sai Witt--LU, Jumah'Ri Turner--ESU, Diego Bernard--NWMS, Will Eames--MWSU, David Pullum--RSU, Cameron Potts--LU. 3rd team contenders: Callan Haydon--UCO, Trey Sampson--NSU, Austin Luger--UNK, Stan Scott--MSSU, Darraja Parnell--RSU, Joel Boyce--Newman, Jake Walker--UNK, Cam Givens--UCO, Jalen Lewis--WU, Cameron Hunter--UCM, Quinton Drayton--LU.

    All Defensive Team: Ryan Hawkins--NWMS, Tyrell Carroll--MWSU, Cameron Potts--LU, Darraja Parnell--RSU, Trey Sampson--NSU.

    Defensive Player of the Year: Tyrell Carroll--MWSU or Ryan Hawkins--NWMS

    Freshman of the Year--Jaden Wells--UCO or Lawson Jenkins--MSSU

    Player of the Year--Cam Martin or Tyler Geiman or Ryan Hawkins

      Good call. Definitely should be on the all-defensive team. Hawkins and Carroll are both pretty good too!

          Similar to the Geiman v. Hudgins thread, just goes to show the coaches look at more than just the counting stats when making these decisions.

          2 years ago (as a FR) he guarded the really good guard from St. Anselm in the Final 4. DB sat out the game before with a leg injury. After the game the St. Anselm player told DB he was the best defensive player he had ever played against and that was as a FR with a leg injury.

            Very deserving and he can guard multiple positions. He is tough on guards and can guard someone quite a bit bigger as well.

                      I used to play in a men's league with a guy that would look where he was passing but he had trained himself to look away as he passed the ball. It was part of his passing motion, as his hands went one way his head went the other. He wasn't on our team so we didn't bother to tell him he wasn't fooling anyone.
