All joking aside, tough to bring in a new coach and a host of new players, while lose a couple along the way and still find yourself hosting a first round game.

No results in this tourney would surprise me this season so...let it begin!

It feels like Bemidji is shooting 100% on mid-range attempts. It's quite incredible. Their defense is causing us to get almost zero dribble penetration. We've always been a little limited but this is the most limited our offense has looked all year and without looking at stats, we have to be getting doubled up on the boards.

The Wolves looked solid against Moorhead yesterday. I've said since the offseason that the goal for this year would be improvement from November to February. In that regard, it has absolutely been a success. After the first few opening weekends, I was very concerned about the defense this team would be capable of playing. They have improved seemingly every week. If this team makes shots, they win games. That's a pretty simple statement and can be said of almost any team I know, but is especially true of this team. The North isn't exactly a juggernaut, but the fact that NSU can win the division after what we endured last season is pretty remarkable. I'm just glad we have a team that people are beginning to care about again. Still a ways to go, but this season has been a good first step.

Fantastic sweep for the Wolves on night #2 of I Hate Winter weekend. The women played well and Izzy Moore is a stud. Rus also played well and is going to be a good one for Northern.

The men were finally able to remove the lid from the basket and make some shots. Glenn and Reynolds both hit some big ones and Bowen made a huge 3 to put NSU back in front late. But the night belonged to Marshawn Smith. He was really good tonight and when he plays like that he can be one of the best players in the NSIC.

Also, that is the most impact I’ve seen from the trench coat mafia in quite some time. Shaw looked like he wanted to be anywhere other than the FT line at the end of the game as he airballed one and went 0-3 on another trip. Stevens almost threw a FT attempt through the backboard and missed the rim entirely.

It’s great to see some signs of life back inside Wachs Arena. GO WOLVES!!!

It was a good crowd (seemed like more than the attendance figure listed for sure) and fun atmosphere for night 1 of I Hate Winter weekend. There is definitely some excitement back with NSU basketball even if the results are not up to the standard. The end of the women's game was as loud as Wachs Arena has been for NSU basketball in some time. It was really cool to see the energy from the players and coaches feeding off the crowd. Unfortunately the USF men took the air out of the arena with some hot early shooting and good, physical defense. The men never really felt like they threatened USF last night and the crowd never really got into the game.

NSU stayed within striking distance most of the second half against Mankato, but it never really felt like we had a chance to win that game. I thought Smith and Obiora played pretty poorly last night. There are stretches with this team where they just seem careless with the ball and make some really low Basketball IQ plays. You can see Wilber's frustration with some of it from the sideline.

NSU falls to a CSP team that we could have beaten. There was an ok crowd in Wachs Arena, but just very little energy. Most of the people I talk to are just happy to have a team that isn’t miserable to watch. The days of raucous crowds might be a thing of the past, but it was strange to be able to hear almost every word from the opposing coach in crunch time of a competitive game.

The team is playing with an effort and intensity we have not seen in a few years and the coach is showing emotion that has been absent. Hopefully the NSU faithful will feed off of that energy and make Wachs a difficult place to play. The next home games are for “I Hate Winter” and if that doesn’t bring out a good crowd I fear nothing will.

Its been that way for about 20 years, but at this level having a cored is better than most, having a vocal crowd is asking for the moon
