    Women's Central Region 2026

    Since not much conversation about the women’s side of things thought it should be started as we start getting into late regular season.

    As Feb starts the top teams in MIAA
    1. FH
    2. UCM
    3. MOSO
    4. PITT
    5. NE
    6. Wash

    Hays has played Pitt once already in a NON- conference game in December at Hays. The rematch is ahead with a game also against MOSO in 2 weeks.

    What do the other conferences look like?

    Regional predictions??

    Fort Hays is a legit top 10 team nationally, I think probably top 5 despite a couple losses.

    UCM is a contender to win the region at their best, but inconsistent enough they are more likely to miss it. Looked awesome against Fort Hays last week and are relatively young, maybe they're starting to piece it together at the right time.

    Pitt was #15 in the polls last week but hasn't played Hays, UCM, or Washburn in conference yet and lost to Emporia at the buzzer yesterday. What they're doing with how much they lost from last year is impressive, but I don't think they're ranked at the end of the season. The only reason I think they have a chance make the regional is that UCM and Washburn are a bit unreliable.

    Washburn is near elite defensively and is pretty physical, has some offensive limitations. Not sure what happened on the MoWest/NW road trip a couple weeks ago, but it's the difference between what would have looked like a solid record and what actually looks good but not great.

    Haven't seen Northeastern or MOSO much. Hate how we schedule like divisions but don't actually have them.

    Haven't watched the GAC but it sounds like Ark Tech, Harding, and Northwestern are all likely to get in if they keep winning.

    Minnesota State is top 2 or 3 in the country with GVSU and maybe Texas Woman's. I don't think they're as good as the championship team a couple years ago, but neither is anybody else.

      Nice summation. I don't follow the Central as much but I know it is Minnesota State's to lose. I was looking at their schedule today. Still have 20 days left in February but they only have 5 games left in the regular season. Hard to believe.

        You’re right about that MoWest/Northwest trip being a major bummer for Washburn. Both games were ugly but the MoWest loss and looking super flat were pretty much devastating.

        I’m not sure what happened to the offense, shooting has just been such a rough go all year. The WU defense is pretty incredible though. Just chokes you out all game.

          I know it's said every year in most sports but regions need to go.

          NSIC plays tournament way earlier that's why so few games left.

            With Central Missouri beating Fort Hays, the MIAA is still in play for them. I still think Fort Hays is the better team but that's why you play the game. For now, the central region goes through Minnesota State Mankato. Soon to be the #1 team in the country, it's theirs until someone beats them.

              Bemidji State names their new coach. I knew I had seen her before- she played at U of South Dakota.

                That hire makes a lot of sense!

                Will take a while for her to pass the other Win-E-Mac connection to coach NSIC women's basketball.
