2026-27 SMSU Mustangs: Regenerating horsepower

Six of the top 8 should return from 2025-26, plus the return of Steven Kramer from his medical redshirt. Likely need to find a third guard from one of Isaiah Schafer (So.), Reece Kircher (RFr.) or one of the true freshmen incoming (Kale Misegades, Talan Witt, Luke Roschen). That's the only unsettled rotation spot I see at this moment.

Seniors (2): Mekhi Shaw, Aeron Stevens
Juniors (5): Steven Kramer, Landon Pokorski, Calvin Buss, Buay Koak, Ethan Koltz
Sophomores (3): Brayson Boike, Micah Schlaak, Isaiah Schafer
Redshirt Freshmen (3): Reece Kircher, Drew Hjelmeland, Isaiah Mahal
True Freshmen (5): Kale Misegades, Talan Witt, Luke Roschen, Logan Junkermeier, Ethan Miller

I think it will be an interesting off season. The last 2 seasons we ran out of juice in the second half of the year. Seasons were almost identical.

Many possible reasons for it. I think the 8 man rotation is much more in limbo that we think. Will be some battles for playing time.

Schlaak and Shaw, and Stevens, and Kramer are givens. Beyond that 4 spots up for time.

I don't forsee massive transfers, but who knows. I do see some battles with hardly any guarantees

Buss probably has a guaranteed spot too due to rebounding and defense, but we need thim to score more.

Shaw will move into the starting lineup, taking Braaten's spot.
Kramer will start too, likely filling the Lund role.
Schlaak and Stevens will start as well.

Three of the four remaining spots should be filled by Pokorski, Boike, Buss. Will Pokorski or Boike start? I think it's a massive summer for both.

Joins Ethan Koltz, who was already in the portal. I've heard one other player is moving on as well. Was not someone in the main rotation, but was one who I thought could have a chance at minutes.

Honestly, with the talent coming in this fall, I don't blame them. I think they were all about to be passed up in the pecking order in the next year.

I know the plan is to redshirt the incoming freshmen who all look talented. I expect 1-2 to play because they will be better than other players. we shall see
