Potential changes being considered for D2 men's basketball tournament

While mourning the potential loss of the greatest thread in the history of the D2 Message Boards (The Official Thread of the Augustana Vikings, obviously), I came across this Hero Sports article discussing potential changes to the current system for the D2 Tournament and thought I'd pass it along:

Short summary is that a committee is looking into ways to try to prevent early-round matchups with in-conference opponents and to prevent regional tournaments that are dominated by one conference.

Figured some people on here might find it interesting.

Is there a chance regions could be drawn not by conferences, but by states? It would possibly eliminate part of the issue with connference matchups because there may be more conferences represented, but still keep travel costs down. For example, Oklahoma has schools in four different conferences.

I'll have to dive deeper into this.

Hopefully this is a step towards the NCAA looking further into breaking up the Central Region for volleyball as well. Nine of the top 11 teams in the latest AVCA poll are from the central region.

Augie is #8 in the country and also #8 in the Central Region. That's ridiculous. If you were to tell me that a top-10 team in the nation this coming basketball season might not make their regional tournament, I'd be shocked.

Northern was No. 4 in the last AVCA poll of 2015 and didn't make the region tournament.
