  • Women's Basketball 25-26

Rankings come out on Tuesday (11/18) and I expect to see a shake up in the rankings especially in the top 10.The 2nd (Union, TN), 3rd (Texas Women's), 4th (North Georgia), 5th (Gannon), 6th (Ashland), and 10th (Bentley) ranked preseason teams already lost a game. I was surprised to see #6 ranked Ashland lose last night to Wayne State (MI). Going outside of the top 10, the 11th (Concordia, St. Paul), 14th (Cal Poly), 17th (CS Dominguez Hills), 18th (SMSU), 20th (UT Tyler), 21st (CO Mesa), and 23rd (Tampa) ranked lost a game. U-Mary of North Dakota has had a good start to the season at 5-0, I'd expect to see them get some votes. Ferris State also has a good change to get a resume building win today if they beat Drury.

It should be a fun season and I'm excited for a few non-conference matchups. A few to keep your eye on:
    11/19- Southern Nazarene @ Texas Women's
11/21- Southern Nazarene @ Lubbock Christian
    11/24- Ashland @ Union
    11/25- Texas Women's @ Pitt. State 11/28- U-Mary @ Western Washington
11/29- Wisconsin Parkside @ Minnesota State Mankato

    Ferris dominated Drury as expected.

Ashland is a shell of itself. They lost like five seniors from last year. So they were way, way overrated to begin with.

Parkside against Mankato. Will be interesting how Parkside holds up against them. That is one I do want to catch.

Parkside's coach, Jen Conely, was at every girls basketball camp at UND when she was playing in high school at Warren, MN. She spent all of her spare time in the gym shooting. When she started coaching at Parkside I talked to her after their game at Southwest MN State. She actually did remember me........

Parkside is the only D2 school in Wisconsin. Given their location north of Chicago and access to a wealth of talent in Wisconsin and Minnesota, they should be able to build extremely talented sports teams. Nice campus too. Only downside is the cold!

Nice shout out to Jen! I'm from Warren, MN as well. She's doing a great job at Parkside.

One of my former basketball players at Freeborn is Bob Sombke who is now retired but lives in Alvarado.

When I was at KMS our girls beat Warren in the consolation round of the state tournament. But that was back in 1980.

Yes, the camp coaches were very impressed by Jen's work ethic and love for the game.

That's awesome, my dad graduated from Warren around that time, he talks about how good Kim Brekke was for that Warren squad back then. I'm glad to see Jen succeeding at Parkside.

#15 Northern Michigan is in trouble at home against Minnesota Duluth. The trail 61-72 with 3:33 remaining.
EDIT: #15 Northern Michigan loses 70-85 to Minnesota Duluth.

I mean Pittsburg State was overrated, and Texas Women are pretty good.

Watching a lot of womens hoop in this early season. Grand Valley, Mankato, and IUP have been th Chr most impressive to me so far. I haven't watched the Texas teams yet so can't say my favorite down there yet. Probably Lubbock Christian as they are well coached and always tough

Yeah Texas Women pretty good.. One loss, check out that score. Beat at home... Might want to take a look at Harding. Jumped 15 spots nationally.

A team I overlooked with no returning players and a new head coach is about to be 7-0 on the season, albeit against not so good competition but Nova Southeastern has done well so far. I'm interested in seeing how they fare once they start conference play.
