So, will BU slip past Nova for the #1 slot?

    Comment

    • #17
Its possible, although I prefer that they don't. Bellarmine appears to be no. 1 in all the mathematical ratings. Frankly, if I were voting, I'd still vote NWMSt #1. I guess it would be interesting to say that the #1 team in D1 and D2 are in Louisville.

Wow! NWMS lost to Central Missouri, a team that was beaten at home by William Jewel?? There must be something more to explain that, maybe key players injured or something?

I guess the new poll will come out today. Here is what the top five should be IMO, not what it will be.

          1. NWMSt: They are 46-1, one loss does not mean they aren't the best team.
          2. West Texas A&M
          3. Lincoln Memorial, one loss to West Texas A&M in overtime. Crushed everybody else.
          4. Bellarmine
          5. IUP

Our new D2 #1 team was recently in the news...

My main question is what was the ref standing 3 feet away looking at?

I am mildly surprised that Drury has not broken into the top 25. Undefeated and having the tradition they do, I would have thought the pollsters would have put them in by now. I mean they kept a bad West Liberty in the poll despite 2 losses (now 3) strictly based on reputation. Drury certainly deserves more, not necessarily because they are a top 25 team (who knows yet?) but just on reputation and record.

I'm guessing their 76-78 loss at home to D3 Blackburn is the reason they aren't on the rankings. Curiously, Drury shows their record as 6-0, but I thought exhibitions against D3 generally count in regular season records, aside from performance indicator calculations.

This exhibition or not an exhibition thing is further complicated by the fact that NAIA teams call games against D2 teams exhibitions, while D2 teams supposedly count them on their records. Except the D2 tournament committee does not consider games against NAIA teams when making selections, so the games don't really count in any meaningful way.

It's not that uncommon. D1/D2 games are counted that way, too, sometimes, it just depends. For example, KWC @ Samford earlier this season was an exh for us but a real game for them. Happens quite often, actually.

Post from 12/13 has been updated.
                                This week, we saw losses from #1, 3, 6, 8, 14, 21, 22, 23.
It looks likely that BU is #1, and UIndy and USI round out the top 15 going into the break.
