    Re: GLVC Season Chat

The two most interesting storylines I think for the season left are:
    1. The fact that Bellarmine/Southern Indiana still have home-and-homes with Indianapolis/Lewis. That's four of the top five in the Point Rating System, where there's a huge gap right now between 5 and 6. Meanwhile, UMSL gets S&T twice, Drury twice and Maryville to go with a trip to Indianapolis/Lewis.
    2. The race for the final three seeds for the conference tourney. I think Drury is trending up enough at this point to feel good about being in (and their schedule is pretty easy the rest of the way other than the aforementioned UMSL games). UIS probably has the hardest schedule left of those middle of the road teams (BU/USI both twice, at RU/WJC).

For the women, I was surprised to see Truman keep it so close against Drury on Saturday. Only TSU and Lewis have kept it within 10 against DU this year, and both were in Springfield. USI starting to show a little wear and tear, but those four and Maryville are pretty much locked into Edwardsville barring complete, unforeseen collapse. Five teams with 6 or 7 losses playing for 6-8 seeds.

It would not surprise me to see Drury or Lewis win the conference tourney. These are your 2 teams playing the best ball.

Conference tourney pairings (and prior matchup results):
#1 Lewis vs #8 Truman (LU 79 at TSU 58, TSU 75 at LU 66)
#4 Indianapolis vs #5 Drury (UI 71 at DU 70)
          ____
#2 Bellarmine vs #7 Rockhurst (RU 71 at BU 82)
          #3 Southern Indiana vs #6 Missouri-St Louis (61 USI at 73 UMSL)

A lot of interesting pairings for both first and second rounds. Based on past records, the only team that really looks "comfortable" for the first round is BU.

Just for fun, I'm running the conference pairings through Massey's predictions. Bracketed numbers represent Massey's ranking of the team (nationally). I find round 2 to be particularly interesting in the matchups, given the games already played this season. In both cases, the visiting team won all games played.

            ROUND 1
            #1 [7] Lewis 72 vs #8 [91] Truman 65
            #4 [36] Indianapolis 71 vs #5 [37] Drury 76
            #2 [6] Bellarmine 77 vs #7 [67] Rockhurst 66
            #3 [19] Southern Indiana 77 vs #6 [61] Missouri-St Louis 71

            ROUND 2
            #1 [7] Lewis 69 vs. #5 [37] Drury 67
            #2 [6] Bellarmine 79 vs. #3 [19] Southern Indiana 73

            CHAMP
            #1 [7] Lewis 67 vs.#2 [6] Bellarmine 72

The MIAA, in considering expansion, is looking to add non-football schools. It was suggested on the MIAA forum, expansion thread, that Drury and Rockhurst might be tempted to make the jump to the MIAA. Thoughts??? Apologies, but I didn't really know where else to post this where a lot of GLVC posters might read it.

MiAA kicked rockhurst out 12 yrs ago. Drury would be good fit and reduce travel.

I'm fine with that. The GLVC can't afford to lose any football schools, so if non-football schools on a boundary of the conference footprint want to leave, then OK. Plus, let's face it, NCAA Division 2 will always be about regionalization, so if a really good basketball program wants to move to another region, fine by me.

                    Re: GLVC Season Chat

Its all about the BUDGETS. Those schools along with William Jewell need to see if its the most cost effective and if they want to compete in that region for their sports.

GLVC needs to look into Marian University in Indianapolis as someone to bring into D2, they are very good in most sports, maybe even try to add Indiana Wesleyan with them. Both schools are just as good as Davenport was when they went into D2.

Looks like a shift in scheduling this year with travel partners changing for many (most?) teams. New travel partners for this season are:
                        IL.Springfield-Lewis
                        UIndy-Bellarmine
                        USI-McKendree
                        UMSL-Lindenwood
                        Maryville-S&T
                        Drury-Southwest Baptist
                        Rockhurst-William Jewell
                        Truman-Quincy

Don't worry though, USI and BU still get home and away games for their final rivalry year.

and Drury gets to go to Bellarmine for the fifth year in a row and Lewis gets to come to Drury for a fifth straight year as well.

It's going to be very interesting to see how the first regional ranking looks...teams with 6 or fewer losses listed below. While Walsh has fewest losses, their only notable win has been over UMSL, who I believe would be the current favorite to host.

                            Walsh:
3 losses, 2 in conference, 2 in region
                            ~Lake Erie
                            ~Saint Leo
                            ~Findlay
                            ?
                            Grand Valley State:
4 losses, 3 in conference, all in region

Huge win for USI tonight. Coupled with Drury beating Truman, USI just vaulted into 2nd place in the GLVC points rating system. Current win streak of 6 is 2nd best in the league, behind Drury with 7 wins. Still have a lot to prove in the last 3 games.

GLVC "standings" page shows USI at 13-5 in conference with a W7 streak. I guess they've called tomorrow's game already and we don't need to play.
