  • Performance Indicators 2020-21

I know, I know, the numbers this year will be very different and probably won't mean a lot in comparing teams in different conferences because there is no non-conference play for most teams. But I'm still running the numbers anyways for fun. Deal with it. Here's where we are at three weeks in. Only 77 games played so far across all of D2 (counting only games against NCAA II opponents).

I'm nitpicking, I realize, but KWC has played 1 game it just wasn't against a D2 opponent.

I guess I should have been more clear, "teams that have yet to play against other NCAA II teams"
      You know the drill.

They're gonna need lessons from the football committees on how to make decisions based on statistical noise...

It is too early to say, but Northeast and Northwest may be the two best teams in Division II.

They have met 198 times with Northwest holding on to a 10 game lead; the highest number of match-ups for both schools. It would be great to see how they match-up.

It really is a bummer that COVID eliminated all non-conference play because TSU hasn't been afraid to schedule the goliath of NWMSU in non-conference; they've played the past two years.

The impressive thing for Truman thus far is that all four of their wins have come on the road. That'll inflate the performance indicators a bit this early, but, with their fifth straight road game to start the year coming this Friday at Maryville, that'll mean after that game TSU will have 11 of their final 17 games at home.

I have watched Truman twice this season and they do look very good.

I had no idea Dylan Peeters would become the player he has. Averaging a double-double! And Masen Miller! Did Owen Coburn get hurt because he did register one minute against Lewis unless the table had it wrong.

Also, thanks for the updated numbers.

Ferris State - preseason #15, 1st poll #12...took two beatings at Mercyhurst this weekend losing 41-78 and 57-87. Ouch.

UMSL's win over SBU last night pulls them up to #10 (3rd in Midwest)

Thanks for once again compiling these this year, schnautza.

I'm interested to learn how the NCAA will allocate bids per region this year, as based on your full PI list in the general thread, there are some major differences between some of the regions regarding the number of teams who will be competing in the national tournament this year.

                          Central: 42
                          Midwest: 39
                          Southeast: 35
                          South Central: 34
                          ---
                          East: 13
                          South: 13
                          Atlantic: 12
                          West: 11

I can't fathom that the 48 bids will be spread out as six per region. If they are, it's a complete travesty even in this weird year. Those four smaller regions are basically just one conference in each that has agreed to play, so a regional that is just a glorified conference tournament also seems ridiculous. Smushing the Atlantic/East would make sense, but the South/West wouldn't make geographical sense as a "regional."

Perhaps four regions of West+South Central (45), Central+South (55), Midwest+East (52), and Southeast+Atlantic (47) would make more sense geographically (still not ideal, but closer.)
Each superregion would get 12 bids allotted. In these groupings, the only regions that aren't adjacent are Midwest/East, but I'm not sure if there would be a more logical grouping.

At this point, I'm wondering if I should be adjusting my list to only include teams still playing. For example, Lincoln ended up cancelling after 3 games. I personally think their games should be omitted as having teams included with only partial seasons really skews the data.

That also opens up the can of worms of independent teams, like Salem, that won't have anything close to a full schedule. If I pull their 2 losses from Lincoln, that makes them a 1-0 team right now...and they only have 8 games remaining.
