Re: G-MAC All-Sports and Conference Business Thread
Saw this D2 football map posted on another thread and when I looked at it, it really hit me how UIndy is much closer to the G-MAC schools. When you take St. Joes away, there are no football schools close to UIndy at all. There are at least 5 G-MAC schools that are as close or closer than the closest GLVC school is.
BTW - in addition to proximity, the G-MAC supports all of UIndy's sports (whereas the GLVC does not). UIndy plays as an independent in Men's Lacrosse and in the GLIAC for Women's Lacrosse.
Also, the GLVC is down to 6 football schools. They borrow 2 schools from the MIAA to fill out their schedules, but the GLVC itself is down to 6.
Just food for thought - I'm not convinced anything is in the works.
Re: G-MAC All-Sports and Conference Business Thread
A PSAC poster on the MEC page said he expects one of the PSAC private schools (Seton Hill, Mercyhurst, Gannon) to seek G-MAC membership. I'm guessing he means SH, as the other two do everything together. Seems crazy, because it would spread the conference out even more. But it got me thinking. I've said before that if/once momentum starts going the G-MAC way, there may be enough profile-fitting schools for two conferences, so....
The Great Mid-East Athletic Conference:
Mercyhurst*
Gannon*
Seton Hill*
Ashland*
NDC*
Lake Erie*
Walsh*
Malone*
WJU
AB*
D&E
WVW*
Charleston*
OVU
+ UC for women's sports
Re: G-MAC All-Sports and Conference Business Thread
There are some very interesting quotes in that Wheeling Jesuit Lacrosse article. I think that you can read between the lines and see the school's feeling toward the G-MAC as a whole.
I believe even more now that Wheeling is eventually going to become a full member at some point sooner rather than later!

"the institutions we want our student-athletes to be associated with". Yeah, that caught my eye too.
Funny enough, I thought one of the reasons they didn't announce them earlier (their name has been visible on the 2018 MLAX schedule for months now) was because maybe they were joining in other sports as well (like swimming or wrestling).

Well, for all we know those could still change too. I know we've been evaluating what conferences Jesuit is going to be a part of for a while now, but I don't know what decisions will be made. This could be nothing or this could be a test run, I don't know.
Honestly though, I do think this timing is interesting. This was announced only two hours after news broke on the Diocese of Wheeling Charleston buying all of WJU's assets and debts. For all I know, that could just be a coincidence but it feels weird.
Re: G-MAC All-Sports and Conference Business Thread
After reading all of the new posts regarding WJ, it convinces me more than ever that big changes are looming in the conferences around us. Add to this the GLVC situation where they only have 6 football schools and could possible lose another. Things appearing to be percolating, ready to boil over sooner rather thank later. I wouldn't expect anything major in the near future but I have to believe that this time next year, here will be significant changes to the GLVC, GLIAC, GMAC, and the MEC. Best part is that the GMAC can pick and choose now.

All things considered, you should add the PSAC to that list too. With the PASSHE system and state legislature both having consultancy groups doing reviews on potentially consolidating or closing some of the 14 state schools, we could see some movement there. It's incredibly doubtful there would be a large number of changes to the state system but if the state recommends closing some shools, Cheyney drops athletics, and/or any of the four not-state schools get poached by the GMAC, MEC or GLIAC, they may feel compelled to go out and get a one or two replacement schools. With both reviews due by the end of the year, that will add stuff into the mix. They may be at 18 schools now, but who knows what they'll looking at this time next year.

Also, G-MAC Spring meetings are yesterday/today in Cincy.

Well if there are going to be any surprises, which I highly doubt right now, this would be the timeframe for some sort of announcement. Spring semester has ended, only a hand full of teams still competing in spring sports. Early June looks like the prime time for an announcement. I feel more confident in that happening on June of 2018!
