Cedarville softball returns from Florida at 12-2. CU baseball returns a little beat up.

Kind of weird that the conference hasn't done a piece on the NCAA DII Track and Field Championships that took place last week yet. The Tiffin men placed 3rd overall, a couple of G-MAC athletes were national champions, and numerous G-MAC athletes were named All-American. Hopefully something is in the pipe.

3/15 edit/update - The conference now has an article up.

Alderson Broaddus did go 2-3 in G-MAC wrestling matches and did go 8-5 on the year. Sophomore Gino Sita went 1-2 in the nationals which isn't bad.

Alderson Broaddus scored a combined 6 points in the men's and women's indoor track meet for the G-MAC championships. The men scored 6 in a tie for 10th with OVU and beat out Lake Erie for last place. The women did not score a point.

Alderson Broaddus finished 8th in men's basketball and next to last in women's basketball.

As far as spring is concerned, AB is 1-8-1 in baseball so far, softball is 2-10, men's lacrosse is 1-5 and women's lacrosse is 1-7. That is a combined 5-30-1.

I notice that the D1 Big East baseball tournament will also be played at Prasco Park this year (after ours concludes).

The Presidents Cup standings have been updated:

              1) Findlay - 110
              2) Walsh - 98
              3) Hillsdale - 92.5
              4) Cedarville - 89.5
              5) Tiffin - 88.5
              6) Malone - 86.5
              7) Ohio Dominican - 57
              8) Lake Erie - 54.5
              9) Davis & Elkins - 51
              10) Ky. Wesleyan - 49.5
              11) Ohio Valley - 43.5
              12) Trevecca - 40
              13) Alderson Broaddus - 38.5
              14) Ursuline - 30

Its interesting that 6 of the top 7 are the old Mid-Ohio Conference (later named American Mideast) teams. The non MOC/AMC team is Hillsdale. Is it mere coincidence that positions 1-8 are OH/MI schools and that 9-13 are the KY/WV/TN schools?

I'm beginning to wonder if travel is taking its toll on the geographic outliers. Are increased travel costs taking funding from other areas (scholarships maybe?) that would benefit overall competitiveness? Is student athlete fatigue an issue?

Maybe the answer is simply that the OH/MI schools have always (or at least recently) had more robust athletic departments.

Of maybe the current order is the result of 1) the G-MAC's new scoring formula, combined with 2) the time of year I'm looking at the data. The WV schools all have Men's and Women's lacrosse teams. They will be awarded points in the Spring while many of the schools at the top of the current list are getting zeros.

I can't speak for the others, but as for KWC, we've NEVER been overly competitive in all sports, regardless of what conference we were in. Several sports have improved since moving to the G-MAC as far as games won and overall competitiveness, but I don't think you'll ever see us in the top 3 or 4 of an all sports competition such as this.

Congrats to Findlay on the win.

Good luck to Walsh. Coach Young is an excellent coach imo.

Nice to see that Hillsdale, Findlay, Tiffin, Walsh, Ohio Valley, Cedarville, Kentucky Wesleyan and Alderson Broaddus all made their way south this week to play in Trevecca's golf invitational. There is an advantage to having a southern outlier in the conference/region. I checked the weather the other day, and it was 10 degrees warmer in Nashville than it was in most of the G-MAC towns. Hillsdale, Findlay and Trevecca took the top 3 spots (there were GLIAC and GLVC schools there too) and only 5 strokes separated them.

My guess is new programs starting and anyone can transfer to new school and play right away.

Since it mentions that convention/visitors bureau, maybe some sort of new bowl game? Even if so, not sure why it'd be in or around Hobart, IN, though; that's in/near Chicagoland and could be a rough destination, weather-wise, right after the football regular season.
