Bummer for the athletes, still hoping for a hoop season for everyone. The CCAA has been a great non-conference hoops partner for the GNAC, hopefully the PacWest and GNAC can schedule some more games against each other in non-conference play. Best wishes CCAA, hope to see you in January.

The CCAA is very wrong to make this decision so early, with 4 months before the season even begins. This is terrible for all of the athletes. However, maybe it is for the best to make this call now, so that those athletes can have time to transfer to other programs, perhaps in Texas which is already reopening things.

While it does seem early to make the call with regard to basketball season, they are likely making the call because fall athletics start in July and August, so are right around the corner and decisions about having students on campus and getting dorms and dining on campus ready require early decisions to get things rolling one way or the other. It's not likely that campuses will see a real clear path by early to mid summer. Having students on campus in dorms seems like a big step right now and students aren't going to want to travel to college again, only to be sent home a month or two later again... And having athletics move forward involves the whole conference moving forward. Unless Texas has its very own conference just like the CCAA, transferring to Texas isn't likely to help; especially if cases start to surge in Texas.
In the end, while it might seem early, it might help students and athletes sort of figure things out rather than waiting weeks and weeks longer not really knowing what's going on. Sometimes knowing one way or the other is way better than just the daily battle of not knowing. The ability to plan is what CCAA students have now that nobody else does. Sometimes that's helpful even if it's not the first choice outcome.

Oxford University is in the lead to find a vaccine and they say the earliest would be the end of September and that's probably not going to happen. They know a little bit about science at Oxford.

You think online classes would work better for athletes, considering how little they are actually in class due to travelling for away games. Weird.
I just think whole NCAA should cancel fall sports, otherwise it should be a school by school decision, or at least the CCAA members should have the chance to play the season as an independent (though it would be hard to find games to schedule)

CSU Dominguez Hills just got a big commit from 6'10" San Bernardino Valley College transfer Cam Butler. Interesting he committed to a CSU program given what is going on. He even passed up like 3 Division 1 offers including Cal Poly. Also held an offer from CWU. Highlights: https://twitter.com/camm2x/status/1244404374140416000

I think college basketball ball will be played this year; I'm skeptical sbout college football. Oxford University is moving pretty quickly on a vaccine by the end of September or October or November. The NCAA should just move college football to the spring and call it a day.
I think they can start college basketball in January and extend the season a little bit, maybe play some more non-conference tournaments at one site to save money.

Alaska is opening up almost completely this Friday, and that includes large gatherings such as concerts, festivals and sporting events provided the venue is in contact with state advisors. Alaska still has a 14 day quarantine for people entering the state from outside but that is to be reviewed on June 2nd.
Provided there is no major relapse in cases/deaths, it appears the Alaska teams will be ready to open the college basketball season on October 15th.

Provided there is no major relapse in cases/deaths, it appears the Alaska teams will be ready to open the college basketball season on October 15th.- There will be more cases now, that's for sure. It'll be interesting to see what human behavior is going to do with everything being thrown open pretty wide. We're lucky to live in a place that's pretty physically distanced without having to sacrifice too much daily.
- Alaska's teams won't be ready to go if UAA and UAF don't open their campuses to in person classes and remain online, because most of our players don't live in Alaska.
- Even if Alaska has college students on campus this fall and things are awesome in Alaska, that won't matter if the rest of the GNAC or the NCAA makes the call that things aren't swimmingly awesome everywhere else. Our league's headquarters are in Portland and the center of the league revolves around Seattle. I don't think the league is going to weigh Fairbanks and Anchorage too closely in their analysis of how to move forward with sports.
- There is still so much to figure out and evolve before October, just cause we're opening up this Friday doesn't mean mid October is going to be all things normal. I know you got a kid on the team and thus need to be optimistic about the season, but what Dunleavy announces today has almost no bearing on what will be happening in October, especially since he doesn't have any say in what college athletics will look like. That said, I appreciate the optimism and continually feel like a Debbie Downer in my responses to you; sorry for that. I would be only too happy to have you be right on this one. Let's hope so.

Yesterday the U-Cal system said that they would be open this fall. Seems that the State system jumped the gun. It would be odd to have one set of public schools open yet the other system closed in the same state.
