  • Six GNAC schools cancel seasons

    https://www.gnacsports.com/wbasketba...etball-season/

UAF, NNU, SMU, and SPU are the only teams who plan on playing a conference schedule. All other teams have backed out, but will be free to schedule other games.

I don't agree with this. More could've been done to have a season. What about bubble play or pod tournaments? A modified conference schedule seemed very possible.

The problem with bubble tournaments is collegiate sports are not professionals, and certainly division two are not professionals.

Also the viruses hit a new high, it's raging all over the country right now because we got lazy, and soon we'll be at 200,000 new cases a day. I wish they were playing, too, but it is truly insane how bad the virus is right now.

I think some teams will be playing a modified non-conference schedule as shown in the GNAC release where you can play local schools.

I'm hoping the Northwest conference /Division 3, keeps their minds open to play some division 2 schools remember they were the ones that blew up the Columbia Football Association because they didn't like playing state schools. I could see them being very elitist about this, too.

I have created a petition to let CWU Basketball play this season! If everyone could take a minute to sign it, I would appreciate it! If Ohio State could do this to play football, then surely we can do this to play CWU basketball!

Story from the Ellensburg Daily Record with comments from the CWU AD https://www.dailyrecordnews.com/spor...fc7b88459.html

He points to the travel as the main issue in playing a conference season.

Virus is raging in Idaho, 1,500 cases today more than Oregon and Washington and the population of the state is much less than Washington and Oregon. They are doing nothing to stop it in Idaho, more people are dying, schools are shutting down. I wanted to play a college basketball season this year but it really doesn't look like a smart thing to do.

Oregon had around a thousand cases today, Idaho 1,500 ... If they could have managed it to a 500 or under I would have been maybe for having the season.

There are too many morons out there, like the 10,000-people Halloween party in Sat Lake City where it is spreading like wildfire; and the 300-person wedding in Ritzville, Washington, where everyone there is getting it. It's moron city across the United States and in the Northwest.

Fairbanks and SPU recently backed out, leaving just Saint Martins and NW Nazarene. So the GNAC just canceled the season

Wow, I can say working in Nampa, living in Boise, we have the highest per capita Covid rate in America right now. NNU is living in delusion land if they think they're going to play; not sure what's up with St. Martin's. I guess they could play Evergreen State 15 times, and NNU could play College of Idaho, though the C of I is well into their season, if you can believe that.

Update: NNU to play an independent schedule. "Local" teams, if you consider Eastern Oregon 3 hours away local: College of Idaho 7 miles away, Boise State 15 miles away, EOU 180 miles away; University of Idaho 300 miles away; Whitman College 4 1/2 hours away; Idaho State 3/4 hours away ... tough to put together a schedule.

Since you mentioned Boise State, they're thinking of joining the American Athletic Conference. I guess that loss to my alma mater San Jose State in the Mountain West championship game scared them off. LOL

I loved them getting punked on the big stage in the Mountain West championship by SJSU. Their now former coach is a total jerk.
