  • Jim Shaw to Coach WSU in Season Opener

WSU coach Kyle Smith tested positive, and will miss the Cougars season opener vs Texas Southern. Former Western Oregon head coach Jim Shaw will be the acting head coach for the game.

Cool to see, though I wish it was under different circumstances.

I heard coach Smith is coaching tonight, not even 14-day quarantine. I'm a Cougar fan, grew up with them, and don't get me wrong, but that school has mismanaged the virus worse than most. It's like they don't even freaking care. Idaho -- 8 miles away -- did much better with testing and protocols. Smith coming back after a week or less is not right. Typical WSU right now, same cluelessness has them $100 million in athletic debt.

Not pretty, but WSU won their opener 56-52. Only FOUR players scored for the Cougars!

Update: Apparently HC Kyle Smith was coaching the game, as he finished his isolation in time before the game.
