  • Transfer Portal Landing Spots

Since the last portal thread went way off topic, I am making a new one. Please no side conversations!

Cavin Holden committed to Montana State, picking the bobcats over five other Division 1 offers https://x.com/EthanNBCMT/status/1914...c64DQrVUQ&s=19

MSUB's Kael Robinson committed to Northern Kentucky, and WWU's Tijan Siane to Weber State.

Mason Landdeck is transferring to Billings for his final season. Will be interesting to see where to other SPU guys land, hopefully some at CWU! https://x.com/landdeck1323/status/19...wfdXHH61g&s=19

What is this "school policy" or "new school rules" that Landdeck and another SPU portal guy mentioned in their announcements? Did "we" (which means you Wildcat Nation! haha) ever figure that out?

I believe they're requiring everyone to live on campus to qualify for scholarships (or certain chunks of the scholarship) or something to that effect, can't remember where I read that.

I’m wondering where Chris Lee ends up from Fairbanks. Honestly he’s the type of guard UAA needs but I suspect he’s looking for D1 opportunities first.

Sorry Goods my SPU insider is not responding to my DM on X. Thanks D2 Rover, that would definitely be a ridiculous rule especially in Seattle. Hopefully the SPU talent will be distributed among other GNAC teams, with Landdeck already with MSUB

Western Oregon had one guy remaining, Ty Best, I don't think played at all this past year he put himself into the portal so every single guy is gone. That's a good thing. These guys were not only not very good players, they were selfish and showboats and the worst thing is they didn't care about winning. They played very casually then after losses they're all hugging their football player friends and laughing it up. They don't have to cry after losing a game but show some freaking pride

They're pregame warm ups they're trying to show off their dunks. What an embarrassing era for Western Oregon basketball. I'm really glad every single guy is gone and I'd be shocked if anybody picked them up in the portal though I did like that freshman guard from California, he played hard. Everyone else should get ready for intramurals at their next school.

GNAC Freshman of the Year Grant Kepley from WWU hit the portal. As a local Bellingham kid that is someone who could've become a fan favorite and next WWU legend. But after such a huge freshman year he must be looking D1.

Contrary to popular belief, a lot of these guys won't get picked up. Mrus -- formerly of UAF and at Idaho last year -- had a lot of injuries at UI, played well when healthy. He's been in the portal forever, no takers. Most of Idaho's team, except their often-injured forward, have not found landing spots. Actually, the Big Sky (outside of a few players) is getting hammered, a lot of players have not found spots. Of course, stats show mid-major guys have a 50% chance of getting a spot, it's lower for D2. I don't get leaving good situations unless there's a guarantee of a roster spot and money.

I don’t have the data to back this up, but from a distance this year it seems guys are taking a long time to sign. There are still a lot of major D1 teams filling out their rosters. And the mid-majors like Eastern Washington or Denver University or Montana St can’t complete their recruiting while guys are waiting to see if they get picked up by Washington or Colorado first. And that’s pushing back the D2s…I remember most years UAA would have announced 3 signings by now. I don’t think they will get anyone to sign this year until later in May. The rest of the GNAC appears in the same boat. Recruiting this year just seems totally stuck in the mud.

And maybe what is holding all of it up is the pending rule change to allow unlimited scholarships but a max of 15 roster spots at the D1 level. Once ratified it’s supposed to go into effect this year! UCLA has like 11 dudes on their roster…so they yet could be adding 4 more dudes yet? A lot of players are going to hold off on that UC San Diego offer if they think UCLA is still an option. So we could all just be waiting till June or July for this to work its self out while the NCAA twittles its thumbs and leaves everyone in limbo. It’s a mess.

According to verbal commits…Alabama has 7 committed players. Tennessee has 9. Arizona has 9.

We are in for a long summer before D2 gets to eat.

This is classic "let's just implement this new rule and see how it plays out" vibe. I'm stating the obvious when this portal stuff needs to be reeled in. I'm not against it, but a D2 coach will seriously wait until late spring/early summer before they know what they've got? Unfair.

And this is the "old man" in me (48 for full disclosure) but I'm growing very tired of the entitlement that these college xfer hopefuls have. Most of these D2 guys in the portal are in fact........D2. Why don't you stay with the team that saw something in you back in the day? Dance with the one who brought you.

We've discussed how these players aren't connected to a school like me as an alum would be and only look at this as a job, which I 100% agree. But on the flip side, the portal is ruining fan bases too. I'm growing tired of getting to know a player and then watch him head off to what looks like greener pastures. Cavin Holden? I get it and he got a bump into a competitive Big Sky program. Good for him. No one else for CWU though.

CWU adds 6'8" Chae Haynes from Tacoma CC where he averaged 18 ppg and 12 rpg over 2 seasons

Looks like an I2 guy -- Instant Impact. Big, scores and rebounds well. On paper, a great get.

WOU coach Ryan Orton is hitting the recruiting trail hard, he has to, there are zero players returning. I'm not expecting anything for 3 years, even in the portal era. The program is gutted, but I hope coach finds some guys to be competitive this year.
