That is how it always has been and always will be. MIAA sold some magic beans about increased attendance in KC but that only happens if NW or Pitt is in it

Also, the semi final teams would all be playing for something extra.

Unlike the old days, ESPN can now make the needed adjustments a whole lot faster in covering games on a shorter notice.

A UWG poster mentioned Georgia State's stadium in Atlanta

          https://twitter.com/GeorgiaStateFB/s...85238304817154

It would need UWG or the GSC to put in the work to run it. That is the biggest thing is finding the motivated people who want to put in the work. Stadium is 2nd after that

If your happy with that then do away with everything related to the game and just play the game on Saturday at the highest remaining ranked teams home stadium. Treat it like any other regular season game and the cost would be negligible.
Not a great solution. There are numerous schools where the stadium does not meet the minimal requirements, set by the NCAA.

However, UIW reclassifying to D1 soured me on the idea.

Playing the D2 N.C. in a stadium sitting between an FCS and a D3 school would seem odd. ;-)
Meh. Not anymore odd than playing in Frisco where the only current LSC school and one soon to be in the DFW metroplex with D2 ties right now doesn't have football (Dallas Baptist) or maybe should have football (Texas Womens):smile-big::smile-big:

The thing San Antonio has going for it is wonderful hospitality frame of mind where they are willing to cater to the smallest to the largest groups. They want you to come back either as part of a group or on personal time.

You and a box of rocks...

D2 Football is a niche sport. Obviously, hosting the game for all those years has not made you any smarter.

But if it is a DII is a niche sport as the poster states then why does any of it matter. Minimum stadium size is set by the NCAA and can be changed with the stroke of a pen.

Treat the game like nothing more than the last week of the playoffs with the top seeded remaining team hosting the game. Charge admission at the gate up to full capacity and be done with it. If you get a hotel room in the area, you get to stay the night...if not, drive until you find a hotel.

Just play it at the highest seed in the title game. That is the only thing that makes sense on short notice. You're going to sell out whatever stadium it is in, then, you don't have to worry about travel costs for one team and the majority of people who attend. You lose the fallacy of a "neutral" site game, which matters just about zero in D-II football anyway.

One issue with Dallas, or KC for that matter, is that coming to a football game.

San Antonio tends to act more like a small town on those things.

I did notice that The Rockpile was decreased from 23,000 to 18,500 in the last update.
Cities that cater to tourist/conventions care! I had the unfortunate opportunity to plan a convention for 500 people about 10 years ago. We went to Vegas. I hooked up with the local convention and tourism board to make it happen. MAN! Talk about a well oiled machine!!! They handled almost everything from identifying discounted hotel accommodations, to finding the right size and available convention venue, to setting up the last night awards dinner. Had some time during the actual convention to talk to the rep that was handling our convention and I commented on how SMOOTH the process was and I wondered why they took a little convention like ours so seriously. His response was that Vegas lives or dies by tourism and while 500 people coming into town for three days isn't a big deal by itself, when you string 15 or 20 of them together over a year, you're talking about some serious $ into the local economy. He said that everybody in the industry from the hotel owner, to the venue managers, to the attractions and casinos operators know that each person that comes to town has a $ figure on him/her and they will do almost anything to make them happy because happy visitors spend MONEY!!!

San Antonio would be a great city to host the game and the rockpile would be an outstanding venue for the game.

There are two things that have been outlined as reasons why this wouldn't be feasible.

They are much bigger in a national championship vs. a semifinal. You aren't just talking about hosting another team, but the whole NCAA administration and ESPN production side too. They can make adjustments on the fly, but there needs to be space to house all of the extra people both at the stadium and leading up to the game. Some towns struggle to host opponents in the regular season, not to mention the added stuff in the postseason and on a timeline of less than a week between when the host is determined and when people start arriving in town.

If there were a "host school" between the teams playing, I think there'd need to be arrangements made by every school immediately after the playoffs are announced, including hotels and a stadium big enough to meet NCAA standards. As teams get eliminated, championship sites get eliminated, but the schools would hopefully be planning and preparing for the game all through the playoffs so that everything is ready to go at the start of championship week for whoever gets the bid.

But these are requirements imposed by the NCAA. If DII truly is a niche product, why are we treating it like it is important? Hotel accommodations for the visitors travel team and coaching staff and that's it. If an NCAA official wants to come take in the game, the NCAA can pay and he can make his own hotel reservation. If ESPN wants to broadcast the game, they can do so...but hotel accommodations are on them.
