Colorado School of Mines Jumps Two Places in AFCA Division II Coaches Poll

Colorado School of Mines dominated conference rival and then-No. 24 ranked Colorado Mesa in a 72-31 victory to move the Orediggers up two places in the AFCA Division II Coaches' Top 25 Poll to No. 12. Next up on the schedule for the Colorado School of Mines is a road game against Western State (Colo.).

The Top 5 has a new look this week after then-No. 2 Indiana (Pa.) lost to California (Pa.) 36-24, dropping the Crimson Hawks to No. 14. Minnesota State still sits at No. 1 with 28 first-place votes, but they are followed by Grand Valley State (Mich.), Ferris State (Mich.), Midwestern State (Texas) and West Georgia.

West Alabama and Colorado Mesa dropped out of the Top 25 this week, making room for two new teams to enter. Azusa Pacific (Calif.) re-enters the poll at No. 24 after a one-week layoff, while No. 23 Kutztown (Pa.) makes an appearance for the first time since Sept. 10, 2012, when the Golden Bears were ranked No. 21. Next week, Azusa Pacific hosts one of the many Top 25 matchups, an important conference game, as they host No. 25 Central Washington.

Other Top 25 matchups coming up this week include No. 4 Midwestern State hosting No. 9 Texas A&M-Commerce, No. 6 Ouachita Baptist traveling to No. 19 Harding, and No. 8 Pittsburg State hosting No. 16 Northwest Missouri State

How in the Holy name of Dale Earnhardt are some of these teams receiving votes?

When your 3-1, and your best win is a team I have ranked #127 in all D2?

Or when your 5-0, and 4 of your 5 wins against D2 comp are against 4 of the worst teams in all of D2?

Ya think? Why would you put a 4-1 team above a 5-0 team that had 63 points in their last game?

I think this poll is excellent and every team is in the place that they deserve. This is done by knowledgeable, unbiased people who would never make a mistake. Also, tomorrow I will be saying the same thing about the D2 poll and every other poll that appears.

I mean really. Let's take a look at Morehouse resume....

              W over Arkansas-Pine Bluff by 4
              - Congrats, you beat arguably the worst FCS has to offer.
              W over Lane by 22
              - Ranked 165th out of 167 Division II teams in my rankings.
W over Central State by 27
              -Ranked 153rd out of 167
              W over Miles by 2
              -Ranked 142nd out of 167
W over Kentucky State by 2
              -Ranked 162nd out of 167

This is a point blank example of some doofus grad assistant seeing "oh Morehouse is 5-0". And even worse, the coaches poll is one of the components of my rankings, so they'll probably crack the regional rankings this week....SMH

This is nothing new, why would it be a component of your rankings if you know it's some SID or assistant that doesn't take the time to do any research?

Because I'm too lazy to come up with something more complex :)

Or to do the math for the formula they use for the real regional rankings :)

While I agree they aren't a top 100 team in D2...as long as they are undefeated and assuming they win the SIAC that way, well they should be in your Regional Rankings because they'd be in the playoffs.

These raking mean nothing everybody. If you have issues with the regional ranking math we can spend some time discussing that but these other poles are just a popularity contest and are meaningless.

The fact that WT is recieving votes and Central Washington is still ranked says it all.

The only reason I like the AFCA poll is that they have Mines ahead of Pueblo. But, then again at this point of the season the polls don't really mean anything.
