Texas A&M-Commerce Wins Top 10 Showdown in AFCA Division II Coaches Poll

It took two days to finish because of weather delays, but Texas A&M-Commerce handed conference rival and then-No. 4 Midwestern State (Texas) its first loss of the season. On Saturday, the game was postponed at halftime in a 10-10 tie. Because Texas A&M-Commerce couldn't find lodging within two hours of Wichita Falls, Texas, on Saturday night, the game was moved to Denton, Texas and played at the University of North Texas. The Lions held on for a 20-19 victory when Midwestern State's last-second field goal try went wide right. The Lions move up to No. 7 with the win while the Mustangs drop to No. 12.

Thanks to Midwestern State's loss, Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) rises into the Top 5 at No. 5. Minnesota State still sits at No. 1 with 29 first-place votes, followed by Grand Valley State (Mich.), Ferris State (Mich.) and West Georgia who all held steady.

Tiffin (Ohio) and LIU-Post (N.Y.) jump into the Top 25 this week after Fort Hays State (Kan.) and Azusa Pacific (Calif.) drop out. The Dragons, who were last ranked on Oct. 16, 2007, comes in at No. 22 while the Pioneers sit at No. 25.

Top 25 matchups this week include No. 3 Ferris State at No. 2 Grand Valley State, No. 4 West Georgia at No. 10 West Florida, and No. 7 Texas A&M-Commerce at No. 16 Tarleton State

Davenport. Cute. A chance to win the next one, but in all reality, they may lose 5 straight. Pretty good job having just moved up.

not only did they just move up they just started football...they should win this week and then lose the last 4...if they win this week they will likely crack the top 25...within a few years they will be a legit power

Davenport isn't eligible for the NCAA playoffs this season because they're still in transition from NAIA; they are in year three of the membership process, so they'd be eligible for postseason play next season.

Out of curiosity, why did NWMSU (ranked 9 on the 10/2/18 poll) go down to #13 after beating a higher ranked team? In most ranking systems, that usually results in a higher rank, or at least holding the same spot.

EDIT: Nevermind, guess my eyes still don't work properly. I was comparing two different rankings

You are getting AFCA and D2 poll mixed up. Bearcats were #16 in last AFCA poll.

Realized that as soon as I re-read the article and the website. Too bad you can't delete posts.

As it turns out, all of the top GSC teams will play each other the last half of the season, but hopefully one gets through unscathed so that maybe we can have a top seeded team this year.

The fact that WT is garnering votes, and Central is ranked......Midwestern below west florida, Tarleton only in the high teens, commerce way up there above Mines and pueblo besides being beat handily by the later.....terrible terrible poll.
