D2 has 311 members including the 4 reclassifying schools and 163 (52.4%) are private.
In the GAC, Arkansas Tech has about 12,000 students and Ouachita Baptist has less than 2,000 students. OBU leads the conference with 4 football conference titles, Henderson State has 3 titles and Harding has 1 title.

Ferris State is public. I can't think of an exception to the rule of a school having "state" in it's name being a public institute.
